DM, The "Dragon Manipulator" (dee-ehmm)

DM (a.k.a. The Dragon Manipulator)

DM, also known as the Dragon Manipulator" is an adolescent human that lives on Eistros.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

DM has no notable muscle tone, and is relatively tall and skinny.

Physical quirks

DM will often toss a small ember of fire back and forth when he's deep in thought, bored, or nervous.

Special abilities

  • Fire/Heat Generation and Manipulation: DM is an experienced fire magician, able to put significant power and energy into his abilities. Some of the sub-abilities he possesses include:
    • Ash Manipulation
    • Enhanced Magic: Through years of training, DM has become quite proficient at pyromancy, and therefore his attacks are  more significant (in the range of human ability).
    • Fire Augmentation
    • Fire Aura
    • Fire and Heat Absorption: DM can absorb and disperse, or weaponize, any fire directed his way.
      • Fire Immunity
      • Fire Negation
      • Heat Immunity
      • Heat Negation
    • Fire Detection
    • Fire Mimicry: Superficial only. His physical body cannot turn into fire, but he can shroud himself in fire to make it look like he has.
    • Firestorm Creation: The more intense the storm, the more energy it takes him to produce.
    • Flame Solidification
      • Pyromantic Constructs/Armor/Weaponry: He cannot make creatures or familiars out of fire, however.
    • Personal Heat
    • Pyrokinetically Enhanced Condition: Using jet propulsion, DM can boost his strength and speed by several magnitudes, allowing him to keep up with even elves (though he lacks the reflexes and perception to intercept their attacks.)
      • Pyrokinetically Enhanced Speed
      • Pyrokinetically Enhanced Strength
    • Pyrokinetic Combat
    • Pyrokinetic Flight: Via jet propulsion.
    • Pyrokinetic Regeneration: Within reason. DM is able to heal himself, and others, by heating up their body and in turn, their cells, causing their body to heal far more rapidly. This technique is imprecise and covers a certain area, no matter the wound. It also requires him to entirely dedicate his focus to this and nothing else; if he loses focus, he begins burning the target instead of healing them. For large wounds, he can only cauterize and prevent further bloodloss; it is not a permanent replacement for medical attention, magical or otherwise.
    • Self-Combustion

Apparel & Accessories

DM wears a light grey hoodie with a pocket in the front. Underneath, he wears a white T-shirt. He also wears blue jeans and shoes that are black with white accents. Finally, he wears a pair of black, leather gloves that are fingerless, with a small open back to them.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

DM was born in Zytria, a large urban settlement on the eastern coast of Ameirix. He showed a natural talent for pyromancy from a young age. His parents, although unsure about magic, cared for him until he was around 8 or 9 years old. Then, something happened that changed everything for everyone.   The human government, led by its leader, released a broadcast branding all non-humans as terrorists and a threat to humanity. Despite initial skepticism, the leader presented footage of alleged non-human atrocities, fueling agitation and anger among the people. Discrimination escalated rapidly, leading to civil wars and riots, pushing society to the brink of collapse. The human military responded swiftly, prosecuting non-human races, their supporters, and magic users with merciless force. Martial law was imposed, locking down all human cities and towns. DM, a fire magician, faced the risk of arrest or even death for continuing his practice.   DM's parents tried persuading him to stop, but he was too young to understand the full picture of what was happening. Eventually they conceded and said that he could continue practicing his magic, so long as he did it in a thick forest on the outskirts of Zytria, where no one could see. Getting away to practice was risky and difficult, but DM soon found his way around the city enough to notice where security was thin.   At some point around the middle of that same year, another major event disrupted DM's life. He had been practicing his fire magic in the forest as always, but this time, he noticed something shiny near his usual training area. At first, he thought it might have been a piece of trash or metal, but as he got closer, he realized it was something far more precious: a dragon egg. Shortly after this, the egg hatched and revealed a silver baby dragon with bright blue eyes. Remembering the broadcast, and the warnings from his parents, DM's first thought was to try and kill the dragon, but seeing how defenseless and weak it was, seeds of doubt began to grow. In the end, he decided to spare the dragon, and befriend it.   However, as he was petting the dragon, its head raised in the direction of Zytria, eyes turning to slits. This made DM suspicious and nervous, so he left the baby dragon safe in a hollow tree while he sprinted back to Zytria. The scene that awaited him was like something out of a nightmare; fires were everywhere and buildings had been razed to the ground, with soldiers running and shouting orders. Upon asking a soldier what happened, the soldier responded by saying the city had been attacked by a pack of dragons.   This made DM's blood run cold. He lived in the heart of Zytria, toward the densely populated areas. If the dragons had wanted to cause as much damage as possible, it followed that they'd attack there more than anywhere else. He dashed as fast as he could back to his house...except there was no house. Almost every block in DM's neighborhood had been either turned to rubble or completely razed flat, leaving only empty lots...including DM's.   At that moment, DM had a crisis of morality and conscience. Either way, he would have to flee, but he had to make an important decision; he could either grow bitter and angry at the dragons, and all of dragonkind, potentially going back and killing the baby dragon...or he could take the dragon, and flee with it together, in the hope of breeding peace. After an emotional struggle, DM headed back to the forest, grabbing the baby dragon, and used his fire to jet-propel himself to Eistros, with several pit stops along the way.   At some point in DM's travels, he ended up naming the baby dragon "Quicksilver", based on her silver scales, as well as the impressive speed she displayed while in the air. Along the way he had an encounter with two other, adult dragons: Darkfire and Freezeflame - one a fire dragon, the other, ice. They showed immediate hostility, and DM quickly ran back to Quicksilver, who leapt to DM's defense. After some sharp words were exchanged, and with a lot of explanation, they backed down. They then told DM their story of their service to a dragon king named Orpheus, and how their kingdom had eventually fallen to a human assault.   Not long after, he enlisted all three dragons' aid to help him dig out a cave in a nearby, lone mountain. Once it was complete, DM declared that this would be their new home, much to the dragons' surprise, though they did eventually agree.   As time went on, DM did his best (with the three dragons' help) to encourage other dragons to come live with them in the cave, where they would be safe. Soon the mountain had many floors to it, and many dragons began to live there - including the biological daughter of Orpheus, Princess Goldwing, heir to the throne.   They remain there to the present day, and often discuss what can be done to aid the war effort, or end hostilities entirely.

Sexuality

DM is demisexual/demiromantic (hetero-oriented). He is also polycurious.

Accomplishments & Achievements

  • Became an adept fire magician
  • Convinced many dragons to join him in his home

Mental Trauma

  • Witnessed the aftermath of a dragon attack that led to his parents' deaths

Morality & Philosophy

DM is very altruistic, and often tries to assist whoever he can - on his own terms. He doesn't care about position, power, or authority; he judges someone based on their actions. This has led to occasional trouble where he's called out for being disrespectful. Nevertheless, DM understands that the humans were the ones at fault at the start of the war, not the other races. As such, he's very welcoming to the other races, while highly wary around other humans.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

DM's main motivation is to search out and protect dragons by listening to their individual stories and inviting them to his home. In terms of long-term goals, he wishes to eventually get humans and the other races to reconcile.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

DM is good at video games and fire magic. He's also a good listener and mediator, and these skills help him in gaining dragons' trust. On the other hand, in places with many people he doesn't know, he has social anxiety, and becomes introverted and less talkative. He doesn't get along with authority, and hates being ordered around.

Likes & Dislikes

Likes: darkfire, dragons, Fireswirl, Flashstorm, Freezeflame, getting outside, listening to others's stories, junk food videogames, peace, Princess Goldwing, Quicksilver, all the non-human races
Dislikes: betrayal, conflict, Elestrea, human government, humans, the gods, war

Vices & Personality flaws

Overconfident, cocky, smart-mouthed, disrespectful

Social

Contacts & Relations

DM has a friendly relationship with many of the dryads and naiads in the surrounding area, as well as the fairies and dwarves. His relationship with the elves is more curt, but still diplomatic.

Religious Views

DM acknowledges the existence of the gods, as well as angels. However, he has no interest in worshipping them or giving them any kind of tribute. His stance is, because the gods removed themselves from the mortal realm at the dawn of time, they effectively washed their hands of the world of mortals, and thus he sees no need to give them any sort of respect.

Social Aptitude

Among close friends and allies, DM is easygoing, open-minded and generally lax. When meeting new people, he is less talkative and more introverted. He does not do well at social gatherings or parties.
