The Fantasy Nexus Hotel

The Fantasy Nexus Hotel is a hotel located in Eistros.

Purpose / Function

The Fantasy Nexus hotel was originally pitched by DM several years after his arrival to Eistros. Its purpose was two-fold; to give people of other races a place to stay after losing their homes, and to introduce the other races to several modern aspects of human culture, in an attempt to show them the positives of humanity.

Design

Below is a list of notable areas in the Fantasy Nexus hotel. This list is not comprehensive, and may change over time.
  • The Arcade: Although obtaining and/or reproducing human video games was a daunting task, several races took the challenge in stride, and at present, there are multiple game systems located in the arcade, as well as several vintage arcade cabinets. While there are many human video games present, some are games of a new, original design, created by magic. Other games, such as air-hockey, foosball, and ping-pong, can also be played here.
  • The Ballroom: The ballroom is a wide-open area of wooden floor, created for events involving dancing. Similar to the dining hall, crystal chandeliers hand from the ceiling. It can be accessed via a door in the dining hall.
  • The Casino: Although several races were resistant to the idea, DM eventually gave the okay to create an in-house casino, with slot machines and several tables for cards and roulette. At one point, a firearm was smuggled into the Hotel in order to play "Gamblers' Roulette"; a game where only one chamber of the firearm is loaded. The game involved placing the gun against one's head and pulling the trigger, in the hopes that the chamber they stopped on was empty. The game would keep going until someone died. Fortunately, DM soon put a stop to it, and handed the firearm to the dwarves for melting and dismantling, something they were more than happy to do. The casino can be accessed via one of the doors in the arcade.
  • The Dining Hall: The dining hall is where food is served to the guests, although food can be eaten anywhere other than the guest rooms. The dining hall consists of thirty-six round tables, each with a white tablecloth. The floor of the dining hall is polished hardwood, and crystal chandeliers, hand-grown and cut by crystal magicians, hang above. At the back of the dining hall is a stage with a grand piano, as well as a microphone, both for making toasts and for entertainment.
  • Guest Rooms: The guest rooms are the primary focus of the hotel, and are meant to house newcomers or current residents. The guest rooms are something of a marvel of modern magic: rather than set rooms, each room is a "pocket dimension" which can be shaped by the resident however they like. An individual need only think of what they want their room to be like, and it will shift to match their ideal image. This means rooms can vary wildly between residents, being anything from a normal hotel room to an entire ocean with islands in it. The only exceptions are food and drink; these cannot appear in the rooms, and all food must be obtained from the dining hall/kitchen. Additionally, food and drink are not permitted in the hotel guest rooms. The guest rooms make up the majority of the space in the hotel, and each floor houses one hundred guest rooms, for a total of five floors.
  • The Gymnasium: The gymnasium is an area designated for physical recreation, such as basketball, football, exercising, weight lifting, etc. The floor is modular, allowing it to be switched out for any sort of function or sport area, such as a football field of a court for basketball or volleyball. The gymnasium can even be used for ice skating, as a certain setting sprays the floor with ice magic. The weight lifting/exercise areas are a separate room leading off from the left of the gym. The gymnasium is accessed via a hallway attached to the arcade.
  • The Kitchen: The kitchen is where all food for guests is created. Many talented chefs of all different races jumped at the chance to cook for the hotel, and currently, the kitchen is fully-staffed and has all the necessary equipment for any type of dish, including ovens, microwaves, stovetop burners, etc.
  • The Lobby: The lobby is the entrance room of the hotel. It is carpeted in red with black wavy designs throughout, a nod to DM's pyromantic color palette. The front desk, made from dark, polished wood is located directly in front and to the left of the entrance. A large gold "WELCOME" sign hangs above the front desk. To the left is the kitchen, and to the right is the arcade and, further along, the VR room. Both stairs and an elevator are present to access the higher floors. Past the lobby and to the left of the rear exit is the dining hall, and to the right are guest rooms.
  • The Panic Room: In a stark contrast to the rest of the hotel, this room is somewhat barren, and for good reason; it is the Hotel's emergency bunker, reinforced with many, many shielding spells. In the event of total catastrophe or the imminent destruction of the hotel, this room is big enough to house every guest and staff member. The room is stocked with canned goods and distilled water which are replaced every couple of months. Currently, it has never been used. The panic room is accessed via a hidden hatch in the lobby underneath the carpet.
  • The Penthouse: The penthouse is a pentagonal shaped area at the top of the hotel, encased in a glass dome. It houses an indoor pool, as well as a bar and poolside chairs. It sees frequent use during the winter, and the water is naturally warmed by the sun.
  • The Pool: The pool is one of the main attractions of the hotel. It is a massive, figure-8 shaped pool, complete with heating and cooling systems, as well as all the necessary filters and treatment chemicals. Dwarven engineers are primarily responsible for the pool's continued function, and maintenance occurs every other month. The pool is accessible directly from the lobby's rear exit.
  • The VR Room: In what was perhaps the most dangerous operation in the hotel's history, several races were able to procure highly advanced technology from the human race: "virtual reality pods". These pods allow whoever is inside to experience any video game in a virtual library in full VR, enveloping all five of their senses. The pods automatically save the player's progress and shut off after three hours, in order to prevent excessive play and ensure the player gets up to stretch, eat, and sleep.

Alterations

The Fantasy Nexus Hotel started very small, a mere inn with only four rooms for guests. However, in its many years of hospitality, it has been frequently upgraded and added onto. Currently, it is a hotel spanning a colossal swath of land. Since its inception, some of the additions have included a pool, an arcade room, ballroom, dining room, a penthouse, and a fully functional kitchen, as well as many hundreds of guest rooms added as well.

Defenses

The only primary defense the Hotel has at present is an underground bunker, reinforced with numerous barrier spells and repulsion spells in the event of an emergency.

History

Upon his arrival to Eistros, for the first few years, DM was content with simply carving out a living for himself. However, as time went on and news made the rounds, he began to realize just how many lives had been destroyed by the human race's all-out assault on the other races. So, with the help of a few of his dragon friends (and eventually the other races, with much coaxing), they established the hotel: a simple inn of sorts with no more than four guest rooms. But DM wasn't content with such a small building, and did eventually seek to upgrade and expand, while being mindful of the environment around him and other settlements. Over time, the Hotel grew to house tens of people, then hundreds. DM was able to get goods and building material from races who had intelligence and undercover people on the outside, and although it was dangerous work, DM was incredibly grateful for any new materials he could get, using them to add more entertainment and comfort, such as a pool and an arcade room.   Eventually, the Hotel became renowned across the continent for its amenities and luxury, and people from all over came to make a new life for themselves there. Presently, the hotel is capable of housing over five hundred residents at a time.

Tourism

The clientele that the Hotel brings in are mainly refugees, fleeing from another continent, and so tourism usually isn't a priority. However, for those who have lived at the hotel for a while, they are able to recommend all kinds of attractions to newcomers, such as the pool, the excellent food and service, the arcade, and the excess space available for recreation.
