The Valuable Librarian Building / Landmark in The Denary Realms | World Anvil

The Valuable Librarian

There were books as far as the eye can see. Books on the walls, books on the tables, books on chairs but no books on the floors. Although this was supposed to be an inn and tavern, it looked more like a library. Maybe it makes sense given all the hardships you need to go through to reach this place. But it definitely is worth it. This is where knowledge hides in the world, here in this dusty little building in the middle of nowhere.

Standing on the Isle of Doile, The Valuable Librarian is one of the strangest inns in Aell. Its remote location makes it accessible only to those who know of it and besides it is well protected on various degrees. It serves as a quiet place for those who wish to study the history of Aell and learn more about the world they live in.

Purpose / Function

The Valuable Librarian serves as a place of study, rest and meditation. It was built in a remote area of Aell on purpose and is best reached via sea or teleportation. While the knowledge that the Lyv have is not shared, they have allowed for copies of certain books and documents to exist in The Valuable Librarian for the perusal of those who wish to do so. These copies exist only within the walls of the inn though, so taking them outside will render them useless.   The inn has a sole Curator and allows most guests to serve and even accomodate themselves.

Alterations

The Valuable Librarian has been built by magic, powerful one at that. From the outside it looks like a normal building, sitting on the slopes of a hill in the Isle of Doile. Inside though it has been magically expanded and there are more rooms than one can count. It is in essence a mini dimension within Aell. One can find every book ever written that is accessible to the public by the Lyv. Some copies of books exist only here and scholars from all the world visit to study them.

Architecture

Outside the building looks a normal two story stone tavern with windows and a red brick roof. Inside there is a main room, acting as a regular tavern while the stairs leading up change to accomodate each guest's desires. There is an infinite amount of guests that can stay here at any time as the inn expands when someone else visits.   Besides the main room and the guest rooms on the second floor, the building has of course the library room, which is the largest library in Aell. As well as a small kitchen and stables, equipped to handle Gryphons. Each guest's room is equipped with a bathroom, and a small study space. Finally there is the portal room, with seven different portals leading to the headquarters of different organizations around Aell.

Defenses

Besides being in an isolated location, The Valuable Librarian is heavily fortified with magical traps and defenses. Also The Valuable Librarian has an alarm system connected with various high profile organizations which will sent help in a moment's notice through the portals. Organizations such as The Rainsmiths, The Knights of Cydonia, The White Knights of The Rose, The Guild of Key & Lamp or even The Academy will send their help if the alarm is triggered.

History

The Lyv have been gathering information and documenting the history of Aell. When asked to share with scholars and other historians, they were quick to decline. Cycles of pressure allowed them to rethink their decision and allowed for certain copies to be placed in a secure location. With the help of Seians technicians they build The Valuable Librarian and books from all over Aell were moved there. It quickly became a famous place for any researcher or author to do his research there, helped by the privacy of the location. Nowadays it's accessible by boat from three different harbors, portals from different organizations and their headquarters or via skyship. There still remains only one permanent resident on the island though.

Tourism

Anyone is welcome to visit The Valuable Librarian, as long as they adhere to the rules:
