Humans

Description:

Humans are the most prolific race. They are also the race with the greatest potential. Humans come in a broad variety of shapes and sizes. An average Human male in good health stands around six feet tall and weighs about 175 pounds. Most Humans live around 75 years.   While Humans all belong to the same race, the people vary in ethnic backgrounds on the coastal region. There is no distinct mechanical advantage between the six ethnic backgrounds for game purpose but might differ in social interactions and social status:
  • Markians -The Markians are the original inhabitants of the city, and they are known for their tanned skin and light-colored hair. They are a seafaring people and have a strong connection to the sea and sun, with many of their traditions and rituals revolving around it. The Markians are known for their skill in fishing and sailing, and they are highly respected for their knowledge of trade.
  • Lavonians - The Lavonians are a relatively new ethnic group that broke away from the Markians during the war and now identifies themselves as their own separate group. They were named after the newer Kingdom of Lavonia, which they helped to establish with the aid of Telnans and Serrans who sided with royal defectors.
  • Telnans - The Telnans are a group of people who migrated to Markia several generations ago. They have darker skin and hair, and are known for their love of music and dance. The Telnans are highly skilled artisans and vintners, and their work can be found all over the city, from the beautiful tapestries that adorn the walls of the royal palace to the intricate carvings on the doors of the city's many churches.
  • Serrans - The Serrans are a group of people who came to Markia as refugees from a war-torn region to the east. They have olive skin and dark hair, and are known for their expertise in metalworking and stonemasonry. The Serrans are hardworking and industrious, and they have contributed greatly to the city's architecture and infrastructure.
The two remaining ethnic groups in Markia are the Drayns and the Brathens, who fill out the more labor-intensive jobs and working classes:
  • Drayns are a group of people who have traditionally worked as laborers and farmers with skills of animal husbandry and are keen with longbows.
  • Brathens are a group of people who have nomadic roots in tribal life and herbalism practices that have since intermingled with others.

Morals and Ethics:

In general, humans are ambitious and driven, with a desire to achieve greatness and leave their mark on the world. They tend to be more pragmatic and focused on practical matters than elves or other more spiritual races, and have a greater appreciation for science, technology, and innovation with a greater emphasis on progress and achievement.   Humans are also much more morally ambiguous than other races. Humans are capable of great heroism and selflessness, but they also are capable of greed, cruelty, and betrayal. This may be seen as a reflection of the complexity of human nature, and the fact that humans are capable of both good and evil.

Views on Race:

  • Dwarves: Humans and dwarves share a long history of interaction and trade, and have developed a degree of mutual respect and admiration. Humans also appreciate the dwarves' sense of honor and loyalty, valuing the importance of keeping one's word and fulfilling one's obligations. At the same time, humans find the dwarves' pride and stubbornness to be a bit challenging at times. This leads to tension and conflict with humans, who may have a more pragmatic and flexible approach to problem-solving.
  • Elves: Humans and elves have a complex and sometimes tense relationship. Humans view elves as mysterious and enigmatic beings, with a deep connection to the natural world and a powerful command of magic and other arcane arts. Humans also find the elves' aloofness and detachment to be frustrating or even infuriating. Elves are often portrayed as a proud and often inscrutable people, with their connection to fae heritage that the Church portrays as agents of Chaos.
  • Halflings: Humans view halflings as a friendly and unassuming race of beings, known for their love of good food, comfort, and simple pleasures. Humans find halflings to be charming and disarming, with a quick wit and a good sense of humor. Humans also appreciate the halflings' resourcefulness and adaptability. At the same time, humans sometimes underestimate the halflings' abilities or take their carefree nature for granted. Halflings are often viewed as less serious or less capable than other races and are often dismissed or overlooked as a result.
  • Half-Orcs: Half-orcs tend to face prejudice and fear from humans due to their orcish heritage. The stereotype of orcs as brutish and violent creatures might lead to humans being wary or outright hostile toward half-orcs. Those who are able to look past their distrust might respect them for their combat prowess. This could lead to half-orcs being valued as formidable allies in times of conflict.
