Solar Dragonflight

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

Members of the solar flight are often called warrior-magi by their kin for their extreme reliance on the art of using magic and physical prowess in combat, as well as high degree of skill. Combat alone is not where it shines, however, as the solar flight's use of magic has seeped itself deep within their culture. Wellsprings and fonts of magic are very commonly used in day to day life, for everything from personal hygiene to festivities to cooking. It is not uncommon for solar dragons to start their day by washing in the closest wellspring, basking in the reflected sunlight until midday, and then to boil their day's catch in it for a meal. Oftentimes this process is repeated at dusk as well.   Food imbued with magic is also incredibly common among solar dragons- the process of cooking their prey in their wellsprings does often result in some of the spring's waters infusing into the meat, and can give a 'boost' throughout the day as it is digested. Many solar dragons will often go through a rigorous process with boiling, drying, and boiling foods over and over again to maximize the magic stored within.

Legacy

The reputation of the solar flight and its legacy among dragonkind is one wrought with hardship, massacre, and genocide brought unto others. Their past is full of conflict and subjugation of the other flights, often in tandem with their Lunar allies, providing the military might to their sister flight's strategies and schemes. The Rivanu Dragonflight flight is a notable case of an entire group of dragons having been wiped from existence by them, at the order of Aien Sol de Draco, through systematic destruction. The solar flight was also instrumental in the creation and enslavement of the Omnia, though through their own records, do not seem to be their originators, instead capitalizing on the fledgling race soon after their discovery, mainly using them as soldiers and mercenaries to wipe out the flight's own enemies.   In modern times, the Solar flight has had many schisms over their past, with many smaller flights within it breaking off from Aien's leadership. Many of these groups testify to that Aien's followers are just as brutal to their own kind as they are their enemies, and although have distanced themselves from the crimes of the Lunar flight, do not wish to make reparations or apologies for their own, instead casting off blame unto others and painting themselves as the victims. Over the past few centuries, there have been many talks between these groups suggesting that another schism was likely to happen soon, prior to the War of the Moon breaking out, that sought to oust Aien and his highest generals from the flight itself, though with his death, the future of this seems uncertain.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

An exceedingly common tradition within the Solar flight is that no battle, hunting, work, or territorial skirmishes are to occur during midday, instead the period being reserved as a time for rest, reflection, and tradition. Generally from 11am to 1pm is observed by most solar dragons as this rest period, usually taken to eat and tend to their wellsprings or bathe. Many groups observe this rest period so strongly that even full blown warfare is known to stop in the middle of the battlefield.

Common Taboos

The solar flight is much like the Lunar Dragonflight, viewing reliance and association with other dragons as weakness. It is forbidden for dragons born to other flights to be considered true solar dragons, in a caste all their own and viewed as lesser. There is some exception given to the direct offspring of Aien Sol De Draco with his mate Neia Lun De Draco. however, as those children who more outwardly resemble their father may be given the exception of being more solar than they are lunar.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

The Solar Dragonflight views those with traits associated with their heritage to be of the upmost beauty. Typically, this includes large stocky heads, relatively straight groupings of horns on the back, top, and sides of the head and lower jaw, scarification along the top of the head and snout, and gold, orange, or yellow scales.     Not all solar dragons have these traits however and not all beautiful traits are in association with physical traits that cannot be changed. Typically, battle wounds are given a high regard and as a mark of high status, highly valued within their society. Dyes, pigments, and cosmetics used to color the tips of the horns, ends of tails, and wingtips are also considered to be marks of good grooming and hygiene. Solar dragons also place extreme value on those able to roll themselves in high quality clays, sands, and soils, often staining their skin and scales and rougher sediments can give the scales a good degree of polish.

Courtship Ideals

Courtship among the Solar Flight is a much less serious affair than that of their sister flight, the Lunar Dragonflight. Solar dragons are allowed to court as they wish and with whomever they please, provided their partner(s) are considered to be 'proper' and high status enough within their society to be viewed as a good enough addition to the flight. Those from outside the Solar Flight who wish to court its members are often asked to cut themselves off from their birth flight and join the solar flight itself. They must prove themselves to be not only knowledgeable but invested in the cultural, historical, and religious ideals of the flight by attending their rituals, holidays, and festivities.   Often particular flights are allowed a much lesser degree of scrutiny when courting solar dragons, two in particular being the Lunar Flight and Blood flight. Lunar dragons have long since been allies of the Solar flight, and although not considered to be a part of the solar flight themselves, are allowed a much higher degree of choice and privacy when courting its members. The Blood flight is not considered to be a flight at all by the solars, and so are considered to have no affiliation or culture of their own that rivals theirs.   Members of the flight who are courting each other do not have have to under go the rituals of becoming a true solar dragon, unlike outsiders, and thus are allowed to skip that step in the courtship process.

Relationship Ideals

Polyamory is extremely common within the solar flight, with most of its members having at least two partners. There is little bias to whether the relationships are polycules or harems, both relationship models being incredibly common.
