Girimbor Caverns

Nestled in the southwestern corner of the Horseshoe Peaks , the Girimbor Caverns are the domain of the dwarves on Myas'tara. Born under the mountains, the dwarves tunneled upwards, eventually breaking through to both the southwest Nythenor Plains and the Myas'taran coast bordering the Sea of Mists. Dun Girimbor, the dwarves' major city, boasts a thriving trade with the outside world, with the dwarves exporting metals and gems in exchange for timber, food, and other goods. While some dwarves do hunt on the inner coast of the Horseshoe Peaks, the flow of trade allows the majority to avoid such activities.   Dun Girimbor is a wonder to behold, brightly lit and sparkling, a display of wealth unmeasured. Outside the city to the north, a dizzying network of mineshafts and cart tracks lead into the heart of the mountain, as the dwarves delve ever northward. Mountain Dwarves populate Dun Girimbor, but some others, having experienced the sunlight, wished for less subterranean living. The Coastal Dwarves roam the inner Horseshoe Peaks as hunters, or have built homes on the seaward side of the mountains.   They first established a town, Dun Dural, carved into the mountainside, with stone houses jutting out from the rock. A steep, winding trail leads through the exterior of the town, down the cliffs to the shore, only wide enough for two travelers on foot. Underground, the buildings open up into a large open area used for town festivals and gatherings, with a foot trail and cart tracks leading deeper underground towards Dun Girimbor. To move larger items from or through the mountains, the Dural Lift, a giant crane, juts out of the rock face.   At the foot of the cliff, the Modaz Trail, a wide trail leads northwards to Dun Modaz. Built in a rocky hollow cleared out of the mountains through years of hard labour, Dun Modaz is a town of shipwrights and seafarers. Using timber imported from the eaves of the Forest of Telnara and transported through the mountains and down the Dural Lift, Dun Modaz is a major exporter of seafood. For those unable to afford travel by air, it serves as a modest shipping port, especially to Xirubo, though Eleth Lilanor is the larger of the southern ports on Myas'tara and serves Beacon and Ziltare.
