Sasha the Hobbled
Customs Official
Most sea captains sigh when they see Sasha dragging his lame left leg up the docks toward their ship on Seal Island, the white bone foot of his cane thumping rhythmically. With iron gray hair, neatly trimmed in a manner befitting a cavalry Capitan and a triangular beard that has started to go to white, Sasha will settle his ice blue eyes on the deck of the ship and patiently ask for a declaration of goods. Those familiar with his tactics will always have a scroll ready, listing everything in their hold, passing it to him with two bags - one for the tariff and one for Sasha and his crew. Those new to the city or disdainful of his technique will find the customs official sighing as he limps over to whatever passes as an entrance to their hold. With a wave of his hand, he will send his inspectors into the bowls of the ship where they will proceed to forcibly open every crate looking for contraband. Few make the mistake twice - either they are beggared by Sasha's inspection or wise enough to add his tithe to their customs dues.
Having gained his deformity in the service of the Done, chasing a warlock who had murdered several innocent citizens just outside of Parietz, when his horse was killed from beneath him by a bolt of lightning, Sasha has an active disdain for the arcane. Among his entourage he always keeps a priest of Chetria, alert for any signs of forbidden magic. Sasha and is his crew are, of course, pragmatic. Assuming that the magic posses no threat, a suitable donation to a local charity (in the form of a third bag) can convince them that the magic they see is divine and not arcane.
Lamed in an accident chasing a warlock, Sasha received an official position in Wargun as compensation. He now drags his left leg up and down the docks of Seal Island, collecting tariffs for the duke, his crew, and, when arcane magics are suspected, an orphanage near the Burned Quarter.
