Naz'Asketon Settlement in Tarien | World Anvil

Naz'Asketon

In the years before the hostilities began between the Elynthi and Soulmeliti both lived as brothers and sisters in the great forests of northeast Tarien, scattered in villages that blended into the trees, one with the trees. Over their long lives both peoples learned many things and, after visiting the massive citadel of Khardin that their northerly neighbors began to build, a desire create a beautiful home took hold in their hearts. While the Soulmeliti designed a city that, like their villages, blended into the forest itself, the Elynthi sought to improve upon its beauty.

Consulting with Khadric architects, and employing their stone spinners, the great city of Naz'Asketon was designed and built. Tales of its grace are still told around hearts in New Kharolin and Nosferius alike for it was the combined skill of the Khadric masons and artful vision of Elynthi artists that created its unique beauty.

Naz'Asketon

Built as a three level city, with one level below ground, one on the ground, and one the low canopy, Naz'Asketon was a a city of arches, bridges, and spires. After hauling quartz, marble, and obsidian for a hundred leagues, Khadric masons spun impossibly thin and intricate structures directly into the forest itself, almost as if the great trees had grown around them. Even the tunnels and larders and wine cellars of the lower level felt open and breezy despite the absence of light. Everything was warm and inviting. Indeed, in the beginning, the city had no walls.

Years later, after the war began, trees around the city's perimeter fell to create a proper killing field and to create the wooden palisades that eventually, as the city fell, filled the air with soot and ash as it burned. Today, nothing remains of the once lush gardens and sculpted stone except the souls of the dead. Perpetually shrouded in vermillion mist, the memory and curse of the battle lingers so strongly that no mortal dares approach.
