Heartland Forests
For those that believe the University of Karradone's department of geography has skewed its classifications of Tarien's regions in an Imperial-centric manner, consider the Heartland Forests. Originally known as the "Ancient Heartland," it presents a case that academia is not centered around Eldoria but rather some sort of Eldorian fascination with the Soulmeliti. Why else would this region be considered the Heartland?
It is, in fact, a series of massive forests. Running south between the Gulf of Kharl and the Dreuthekon Mountains, the northern portions of this forest are mostly coniferous, though stands of birch and maple begin to fill in as the growing season lengthens, especially where the Great Snowy Forest gives way to the Salamantra and Hollin's along the coast. As the mountains fade into the Denton Plains, the region follows their edge, forming the many forests of the Orkish Hills before broadening again to dip into the Great Belt with what many consider the continent's greatest arboretum - the ever enchanted Soulmeliti Forests.
Beneath the boughs of the trees, the wildlife of this region ranges tremendously in size and diversity. From shaggy furred mammoths to tiny lemmings in the north and from the great striped hunting cats to the smallest songbirds in in the south, a bewildering number of Chetria's children call this region home. Two of the continents oldest cultures also call the region their home. The Orkish Bands roam the central hills that bear their name. The Soulmeliti Union union likewise makes its ancient home in the forest for which its people were named.
