Geltamar Canal

With construction beginning in 19 AC and lasting over three decades, the Geltamar Canal is a marvel of human engineering, connecting the Eldorian Sea with the Sea of Storms. Crossing the Isthmus of Geltamar, the canal is 14 leagues long and wide enough to allow two large ships to pass side by side. Four locks, three of them clumped closely together near its western terminus, allow the waters to rise and then lower again as it cuts through a small rise in the land.

Travel through the canal takes most ships two days. A well worn stone road follows along either side of the canal, allowing to teams of oxen to pull the great ships along its length. Ships are charged for its use at the eastern terminus near Ithsaman, a city that seems to exist solely to move goods from one part of Tarien to another. Obviously the canal is critical to trade and security. In fact, despite selling the canal to the town, the Empire of Eldoria still patrols its shores with Imperial Legionnaires.
