Rook, Inc.

Messenger

The starting position with Rook, Inc. These are the rookies and those still in training. They may make basic non-magical deliveries such as letters needing proof of delivery, etc. Not every messenger has what it takes to become a Courier.

Courier

The the most prestigious job for those born with wings. These are the carriers of magical, mystical, or otherwise important deliverables. There are sub-categories within the Courier class. These might include such areas as high risk disposal, long-haul delivery, magical items category I - V, etc.   Due to the nature of the deliveries, this can be a highly dangerous [and lucrative career]. Security at The Rookeries is very tight, and all of the couriers are trained in self defense. The type of self defence depends on the magical nature of the individual courier. Some are taught hand to hand, others ranged, and yet others magical.   There is also a group of Fly by Night couriers that do night deliverers. They follow the same class system as a regular courier.

Class I Courier

Class I Couriers are the basic class. The vast majority of couriers fall into this category. They have the basic martial training and have been taught basic delivery ettiquete and can deliver items which fall into the Class I cateory.

Class II Courier

Class II Couriers are a more advanced class. These couriers have martial training on par with the standard military training and have been taught delivery ettiquete and can deliver items which fall into the Class II cateory. They get a higher salary than Class I Couriers and are entitled to the equivalent of a studio apartment if single. They can eat at any Rookery area free of charge should they so choose.

Class III Courier

Class III Couriers are an more elite class. These couriers have martial training on par with the special forces military training, have been taught delivery ettiquete and can deliver items which fall into the Class III cateory. Couriers in this category are a cut above the rest. They command a higher salary and better rooms at the Rookery. If they are single they get the equivalent of a one bedroom apartment. They can eat at any Rookery area free of charge should they so choose.

Class IV Courier

Class IV Couriers are the elite class. These couriers have martial training on par with the special forces military training, have been taught the use of magic and/or magical items, have been taught delivery ettiquete ,and can deliver items which fall into the Class IV cateory. Couriers in this category are the top secret agents of the Courier world. They command the highest salary and best rooms at the Rookery. If they are single they get the equivalent of a two bedroom apartment. They can eat at any Rookery area free of charge should they so choose.

Long Distance

This special class of messenger delivers across oceans or seas. While there are some who feel that digital communication is the best, or delivery via techological means, there are some magical items which do not like technology and will disrupt it, or be disrupted by it. As a result these couriers are in high demand. They also have the Class I - Class IV ranking for their long-distance deliveries; however, rather than have a home base, there are reserved rooms at every Rookery where they may stop to rest. Occasionally one will make the long-distance trek over land instead of the water, but generally, land deliveries are passed from one Rookery to another.

Curse Control

Curse Control is an elite class. These couriers have martial training on par with the special forces military training, have been taught the use of magic and/or magical items to suppress cursed items. They alone can transport cursed items for proper containment and/or disposal. Couriers in this category are highly respected and feared because they tend to be withdrawn and quiet. They have seen the worst of humanity and they generally choose not to share what they have seen with others. They generally only work a few years at the salary they get paid and they are expected to attend regular therapy sessions. They command the highest salary and best rooms at the Rookery. If they are single they get the equivalent of a two-bedroom apartment. They can eat at any Rookery area free of charge should they so choose. Most do not choose to be that social.   Curse Control Operators and Watchers do act as a team; however, due to the nature of cursed objects, they are not allowed to socialize or interact in off-hours. They train together to become Curse Control so that they can be aware of the looks and mannerisms of each other; however, once training is over they are separated while actively on the Curse Control team. It is imperative that the Watcher be impartial to the Operator in order to do whatever is necessary to handle any situation that might arise.   The general progression for this position is no more than five years as an Operator, then transitioning to three years as a Watcher. Both jobs take a tremendous toll on the personnel. If a Curse Control team member completes all eight years, then they are transitioned to Curse Control Dispatch or Curse Control Training. While they are, as previously stated, expected to attend regular therapy sessions, they are often not able to cope to returning to the 'normal' world and so this is the way The Rookery continues to support them.   Cursed Objects is a complete listing of the classification system for cursed objects.

Curse Control Operator

Curse Control Operators handle the transport of the actual cursed item.

Curse Control Watcher

Curse Control Watchers their backup. They are equipped for protection, decon, and in case of emergency elimination of Curse Control Operators.

Internal Affairs

Internal affairs are responsible for communication with The Rookery and within Rookeries. When one does not want to use electronic forms of communications, they use Internal Affairs. A great deal of internal correspondence flows through the internal affairs office as a security measure. Remember, magic can hijack your email! They have the basic martial training and have been taught basic delivery ettiquete and can deliver items which fall into the Class I cateory internally.

Assets

There is a Rookery in almost every major city in the world. Each Rookery is a fortess in it's own right.

History

No one is quite sure how the business was founded. It seemed to appear virutally overnight and overtook the major delivery services quickly. FedEx, UPS, and DHL are all still around but everyone knows that The Rookery delivers if you really need that package to arrive. In the early days, it is rumored that if a package was stolen, elite Rookery forces retrieved it. No evidence has been found of that though.

Guraranteed delivery.
