Three Kings Settlement in Tales from the Other Worlds | World Anvil

Three Kings

Three Kings is the capital of the Edrian empire since the ruin of its namesake city a century ago. While this oceanside stronghold never fell to the betrayal of King Aaron like the empire's original capital, Three Kings has borne more than its share of suffering. The Event of 17 years ago is only the most recent of these tragedies. That otherworldly crisis punished the city's hardened residents more than most, stealing the southern half of their peninsula and replacing it with a surprised City of Light.   Three Kings is a trade and magic hub. The walled city (half-walled now) has become even more populated since the Event. Nearly anyone is welcome in the city. Temples to most deities can be found throughout its northern districts. Mage guilds fight for power due to the loss of their central organization which resided on the half of the city lost to the Event.

History

Originally named Cade, this was the first permanent settlement of the Edrian Empire, or "I'conu", as the elves initially called them. Founded initially as a port stronghold, Cade became a trading post and point of expansion for the empire. The earliest leaders of the empire considered formalizing it as the capital until the dwarf king Kornear gifted the land along the west side of the Shadowhorn Mountain.   Even in the forming of the capital Edrian, Cade was still a significant city. Many members of the royal house remained, as well as the heads of several fledgling mage guilds. With dangerous roads separating a growing empire, trade and protection became big business.
