Bōtlûhlī

The Bōtlûhlī are an Uchechensabwa-speaking people living on the island of Gos, surrounded by the gentle waters of the Geldak Sea.   Most of this derivation chose to settle in Sassam long ago during the Reign of the Rainbow Chiefs, using Gos primarily as a strategic outpost and station to resupply en route from the tribe's native home of Qildab. Sassam offered considerable room and many opportunities to thrive, and the community there flourished: present-day numbers sit up around three hundred thousand. Those choosing to stay on the island originally did so to ensure its sovereignty vis-a-vis potential Tyrilan attackers, but remained there even after these threats passed and came to develop a view of themselves as separate from their mainland cousins, though both groups refer to themselves by the same name.   Today, just under ten thousand Bōtlûhlī call Gos home. The tribe's youth are especially prone to seek out new frontiers as Gos is so small and poor, and the resulting attrition has caused a crisis for group identity and the maintenance of tradition among elders.   Both Oralt, in Tyril, and Sassam, in Pendahar, loom large in the lives of latter-day Bōtlûhlī, who use currencies from both countries interchangeably, along with hefty use of barter. One of their most popular exports is the Urro melon, widely consumed in Oralt as well as Sassam.
