Dhal Khaldur (DALL Kaal-duhr)
Located within the Frostridge Mountains, Dhal Khaldur is seat of power of clan Aedar, one of the major clans of Dwarven society, and one of the oldest cities within Durfaehn, predating the kingdoms founding. As the birthplace of Thurim Aenarek, the first High King of the Dwarves, Dhal Khaldur holds great historical significance to the Dwarvish people. Thanks to this connection to the history of their people, as well as the industriousness of its people, Dhal Khaldur remains a highly influential city among the Dwarves.
Demographics
Dhal Khaldurs population consists almost entirely of Mountain Dwarves, with the majority of occupations practised within the city consisting of smiths, artisans, and architects.
Government
The city of Dhal Khaldur is ruled over by the Clan Lord of clan Aedar. All taxes collected within the city are put towards maintaining its infrastructure and industry.
Defences
Dhal Khaldur is surrounded by a tall stone wall, which, when combined with the mountainous terrain surrounding it, makes an on foot invasion extremely difficult.
Industry & Trade
Dhal Khaldur has a thriving crafting industry (with a strong focus on weapons, armour, and more artistic crafts), and trades extensively with the rest of Durfaehn.
Infrastructure
Dhal Khaldur has a number of forges and crafting workshops, as well as storehouses for storing crafting materials. There's also a large mine a short distance away, providing the city with the materials that fuel its industry.
Assets
Dhal Khaldur has numerous smithies and workshops, as well as access to the large nearby mine. Additionally, as the seat of power for clan Aedar (who also has the distinction of being the birth clan of High King Thurim), the city also holds considerable influence in Dwarven politics.
Points of interest
Clan Aedar Clanhouse: The residence of the Clan Lord of clan Aedar and their family. It's from here where the Clan Lord rules over the city and its surrounding lands, and manages affairs tied to their clan.
Architecture
Like the rest of the structures found throughout Durfaehn, the buildings of Dhal Khaldur are built from stone, using the durable, simple, blocky style emblematic of Dwarven craftsmanship.
Geography
Dhal Khaldur is built into the side of one of the mountains of the Frostridge Mountains, giving the city a rocky landscape.
Natural Resources
The nearby mine provides Dhal Khaldur with precious metals and stone used for crafting and construction.
