Fallen London
"Twelve years ago, London was stolen by bats..."
Fallen London is an online browser game that I have been playing on and off since around 2012.
My english was very crappy at the time, so their very flowery and peculiar prose informed a lot of my learning of the language. Unsurprisingly, natives were very entertained at how my wording was "
Technically correct, but also nothing like I would write it"
Fallen London's flowery prose and treatment of gender matters is still my favourite kind, and it has directly influenced a lot of the naming of stuff in there.
Some examples would be
"Old forgotten broken things", the "
Seeker of Pride", and the names I used for
tabletop NPCs such as "
The elegant bouncer" and "
The Generous Acquaintance".
