Stillsuit

A suit of a flexible material, looks somewhat like a wet/drysuit. The main point is to capture moisture from the body, and recycle it. It's the same as in Dune. Popular in places with high heat and a lot of sunshine, like Ak'Thakra or many planets close to their parent stars.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Essentially the stillsuits from Dune, they capture sweat, moisture from breath, bodily excretions, and everything else that contains water, then purifies it, and recycles it into the body. There's also a facemask, covering the nose and mouth. Often also used with goggles, thus doubling as good protection against sandstorms and such.
Often worn under other equipment, like under a suit of armour for soldiers. In fact, the standard issue uniform of the Ak'Thakran Commonwealth's soldiers is a suit of armour over a stillsuit.

History

Developed in the early 2100s, in order to better live on Mars. Over the course of time, the suits have developed and been improved and refined to where they are now.

Significance

Absolute necessity in hot places. Allows people to work and live in those hot places with much less water than they otherwise would.
Outside of these places, the suits aren't that common, as most places just aren't that hot. In fact, cold-resistant suits are much more popular, as more planets are cold then are hot.
Also, you, yes you, before you mention space; space isn't cold. Not in the same way, at least. See, in space, or on airless worlds, there's no air to preform convection with. The only method of transferring heat away is radiation, which is quite slow. So you're not going to freeze to death, not fast enough before you suffocate, at least.
