Danar is not, and has never been, all that irksome. Has Joy not met Byerly Vorrutyer? Now, there lies "irksome"!
Master Windu was involved in the development of the Crimson Knights. Not because he ditched the Jedi Order to become actually effective.
Sure: I can see So'Zen learning how to pick locks. I don't see him destined to become So'Zen Al Saba, Intergalactic Space Cop.
I can name three better Battle Masters off the top of my head, and two of 'em, I have watched in action personally.
