Space Fold
Spacial folding is the most common form of faster than light travel. Without it, civilizations would be trapped within their systems, hundreds, if not possibility thousands of years away from any other point. And yet, by generating enormous amounts of energy, Starliners are able to cross these distance instantaneously.
Utility
Space folding allows great vessels known as Starliners to instantaneously travel far distances across space without actually moving at all. However, the chaotic and seemingly non-deterministic quantum nature of the "spacial tangent" requires either absurdly complex mathematics processed by a powerful computer, or a degree of prescient ability in a living organism. The amount of energy however, is a great barrier. This results in Star Liners being immense vessels both to house the generators required to fold space, but also to serve as mobile docks for conventional vessels. Many Starliners end up as cities in and of themselves.
With this power, the vessels are able to bend space, and then travel via the spacial tangent to their shortened destination in an instant. This can be used for both in-system jumps and jumps between systems. However, repeated jumps by such leviathan vessels in a localized space, can also result in delays and setbacks due to Causal Reconciliation.

Discovery
The Akhaale are the oldest known inventors of Space Fold technologies. It is commonly the first form of faster than light transit invented by various species however. It can also be naturally observed in the Space Whale.
