Operation EDDA

Operation EDDA was one of the first campaigns/tours of duty launched by the 5122nd Imperial Army after all of the units that survived the opening of the Great Rift and the 5122nd had become the only Imperial army group partaking in the Von Aurach Crusade.

The Conflict

Prelude

With the Great Rift stabilised and communication with Baal established, with his new found command, Napoleon Letizia knew that the Crusade had lost a lot of ground and, as recent conflicts had revealed, they were up against more forces than previously expected. The Imperials needed to gain intelligence the state of the Sleipner Sector and the different forces found within.
As Master of Operations, Staff-Colonel Juha Jussila, designated a number of areas in which intelligence was scant, and had his tacticians and logisticians create fast moving battlegroups and complemented each with a small, rapid deployment force which could react quickly to new intel or orders as they received. New temporary, yet self-sufficient, formations were created and sent into these designated areas. Each operation was given a codename and a set of objectives to achieve before returning to Kulak, Operation EDDA being one such deployment

Deployment

Along with Battlegroup Tanto, the 5122nd's 9th Reconnaissance Battalion was deployed under the codename Operation EDDA which focussed on an area of the sector which the Astra Cartographica hadn't surveyed for 8000 years. The group left the Kulak system in 02.13SCM and departed from warp point 4.
