Gurk the Leon

Gurk the Leon is a famous orcen Meator and Shaman. His life's goal was to find a way to develop rituals to transfer the ability of flight from birds and other airborne animals to the consumer of the flesh.   While he ultimately (and painfully) failed in this endeavor, he created many fascinating rituals to bless and enhance both animals and Orcs consuming his prepared meat.

Early life and Fascination with flight

Gurk the Leon was born in 1578 AR in the northern region of the Golgaed Mountains. Due to the lack of resources, his clan had to travel constantly and Gurk grew up with a nomadic lifestyle. Being a very intelligent child, he spent a lot of time observing the animals around him, creating bonds with them easily.

His special fascination was with the birds accompanying his clan all year round. Not only their diversity but the ease of travel they had through these harsh desert lands fascinated him and he soon started to bother the clan's shaman with questions about flying.

His interests in the workings of nature did not go unnoticed by the shaman of course and he quickly decided to train him as his potential successor. Gurk was fully aware of this honor and was a good student to his master.

Becoming a Meator

When his clan had to locate more south to void the growing conflicts with Keandra, they settled down near the Riverlands west of the Golgaed Mountains. Here, the contact with other orcen clans was more frequent and a Meator joined their clan for a while.   This Meator shared his knowledge with both the clan's shaman and Gurkm as was customary. Gurk, with his fascination for animals, saw the benefits and sanctity of the profession immediately - he began to practice and perfect the rituals to conserve the food with amazing talent. Considering the warm climate, his fast-developing skills to conserve meat were acknowledged wildly and he became a pride of the Clan. It was this time, Gurk chose the Honorific "the Leon", presumably in honor of the first animal he prepared with the correct rituals - his childhood pet goat.

Experiments for flight

Gurk the Leon soon mastered the ability to prepare meat in such a way that they would strengthen and even enhance the consumer of the flesh. It was not long until he found a connection between the animal prepared and the enhanced abilities. It was at this time, when he tried to gain the ability of flight from the meat of birds.   He was certainly able to make a person lighter, gain better reflexes and in some odd case craving a lot of corn, but he had no success in actually being able to float or fly.   In one instance he was convinced to be able to, however, and he wanted to demonstrate his whole clan. It was a memorable jump from a cliff, a short float and a hard fall into the river below. Gurk the Leon was lucky, his ritual had strengthened his bones and made him significantly lighter. Both the air and the water below significantly slowed his fall.   While he did concede his failure at this point he kept his focus on working with birds. Some of his rituals were later used by the first Orcen Paraglider in the ongoing conflict with Keandra.
