Meator

Meat is all about life and death. Power of the flesh and the mind. It has been taken forcefully but will nourish and enhance an orc. It is only proper to treat it with respect and appropriately, to honor the gift of the being that gave it up. This is the Orcen way.
 
A Meator is a traditional, orcen butcher that is trained in preparing and handling meat in the traditional ways of the orc. Most orc tribes are nomadic and often have big herds accompanying the tribes during the warm and arid regions of. As such, properly prepared meat is a vital component and the knowledge of preparing healthy and nourishing meat is taught to a respectful member of a tribe.
 
The trade does contain the ability to perform shamanistic rituals. Often, the Shaman of a small tribe is the Meator as well. Being trained by a Meator to be their assistant or even successor is considered a great honor. There have been games fought over specifically gifted Meators.
 
While the rituals are very important for the orcs, honoring the animal that gave its life to nourish them, they are not purely tradition but also enhance the meat significantly through shamanic magic. Simple rituals improve the durability and taste of the meat, while more complex variants are more nourishing, are able to increase healing of the eater or even grant him some powers akin to the nature of the animal.
 

Did you know...?

Orcs are not skittish in what they prepare. For them the meat of a sow is equally a gift of life as the meat of a gerbil or rat. Since many rituals are fit to clean the flesh of desease, orcen meat is usually safe to eat. The other races are not yet fully convinced of this.
Since many rituals do include the use of herbs and various ingredients, the meat is usually very spicy. One Orcen tribe is famous for their sweet and sour lion steak, however.
As Gurk the Leon found out the hard way, it is most likely not possible to gain the ability of flight through consuming the meat of birds.
Some desperate tribes in the Blue Mountains have started to even consume the flesh of their fallen enemies during the invasion from Keandra
