Magical Energy and the Kor-Ithar
(Main articles: Magical Energy and Kor-Ithar)Magical energy is found everywhere on Shireon and is used to power magic. Every living being has access to this energy through their Kor-Ithar, a kind of non-physical vessel inside their torso. Only a few individuals can harness the power of the Kor-Ithar without training.
The Kor-Ithar can run out of energy if used excessively. When this happens the magic user can still use magic but will have to take a conscious decision of tapping into their life force instead, which is a quite painful process. If the life force runs out, the magic user dies. Magic energy will be restored during one or two days as the Kor-Ithar draws magical energy from the world around the magic user, while life force can take weeks to get back to its normal levels if used.
Although magical energy in its natural form doesn't have an energy type it will develop a type when used based on what kind of magic it's used for.
Places to Learn Magic
Depending on how you want to learn to tap into your Kor-Ithar to get access to the Magical Energy that fills the world there are several places you could go to find someone to teach you the art of magic.
The Academy of the Arcane, located in the Tower of Lenthos in Lenthir, is the place you want to go if you want to get a more theoretic approach of magic. The admission fee is steep, but you'll get a prestigious degree and a deep knowledge of how magic really works.
Students can specialize in a field during the fifth and last year. Most specializations are available in Lenthir, though those specializing in Necromancy will need to go to Campus Necropolis in Kupria.
Where the Academy of the Arcane is prestigious, the Minstrel's University in Sakastro is exclusive, only accepting a handful new students every year. The University teaches how to harness magic through music, acting and dance.
The Circle of Mynelion is the only place to get training as Druids. One of the prerequisites of being accepted into the Circle is to find the town of Mynelion in the densest parts of Kael Thalori.
