  A traveling gunner with white hair and red eyes that cannot remember her past or identity. She claims to have woken up from within a frozen lake over forty years ago when its ice melted, with the only things adorning her body being tattered clothing and a necklace with "From Makar" inscribed onto the back. For reasons she is unaware of, her body temperature is perpetually low and she hasn't physically aged since her awakening. Seeking to find out who she is and what has caused her to become seemingly ageless, Makarova scours Sagrea for any possible clues related to her past.   The most child-friendly member of the Nameless Vigil, despite her occasional seriousness.

Special abilities

For reasons unknown to her, Makarova has an exceptional natural talent with ice magic. From simply freezing things to using ice as projectiles or even using it as a magically reinforced armor plate, Makarova is capable of using ice spells with ease, despite not having any memory of learning how to use magic at all. However, her ability to completely contain certain aspects of her abilities is rather weak, and as a result, her body and the air around her is unusually cold to touch at all times. To keep herself and those around her warm, she wears a thick trench coat regardless of the outdoor weather, as she can feel chilly even in a desert.

Apparel & Accessories

Because of her consistently cold body temperature, Makarova is always seen wearing a large blue trench coat, long enough to reach past her knees and be called some sort of coat-dress. Gloves adorn her hands as well, to ensure that anyone that she makes contact with doesn't feel as though a ghost phased through them. Under her coat, she often wears a collared dress shirt, usually green in color. She never goes out without wearing her favorite ushanka, which is primarily blue with white "fur" to keep her warm (despite usually wearing the hat with the ear flaps folded back on top).

Specialized Equipment

Though Makarova has a large collection of firearms and other weapons, the ones she tends to use the most include:
  • MOZ-50: A non-lethal but extraordinarily painful pistol designed by the Snow Elvish arms company known as Arctaris Industries. It absorbs mana in the area around it to load up to twenty shots of ammunition, which in turn is composed of concentrated energy. The blasts fired from the MOZ-50 have enough force to dent steel, going as far as to crack bones if the target gets smacked by them enough times (or if point-blank, in some occasions). Because of this, the MOZ-50 can actually be a lethal tool if one actually bothers to get crazy with it, making the gun rather controversial as to what it should be classified as.
  • M83 GRN-S "Grand Spring": Makarova's favorite vintage rifle. Modified with a few minor adjustments to allow custom ammunition support, such as her non-lethal rounds or different types of magic-based bullets. She's taken such great care of it that very few signs of damage can be seen and it rarely if ever jams. It has a distinctive "PING" that rings as she reloads, a sound that she is glad made it through the modification processes.
  • Iron Mercy: A magitech handgun commissioned by Makarova herself. Though its appearance resembles that of a slightly large black flintlock pistol with more modern parts attached to it, the Iron Mercy is capable of firing various bullet types and has multiple modes to morph itself somewhat, letting it accommodate different bullet sizes. Aside from its attunement to Makarova's magic, it is by far one of her most lethal guns, capable of popping heads into a fine mist or a bowl of chunky salsa if she wanted. As such, she really only draws the Iron Mercy if she feels as though something has gotten dangerous enough to threaten lethal force against.
  • Sansone Duet "Liar's Folly": A short, double-barreled magitech shotgun and one of Makarova's most lethal guns up close. She supposedly bought it as a bonus to go with another shotgun that used slug rounds, which she named "Liar's Repentance." Fairly lightweight and compatible with buckshot shells sensitive to magic, allowing her to imbue pellets fired with her ice spells.
  • Chimento Dio "Fusillade": A light magitech submachine gun with a large magazine size. Custom-made by a kendani gunsmith known as Ovidio Chimento as a gift for singlehandedly protecting his family. Although Makarova does not carry it with her on missions or adventures very often as it requires its own unique, expensively made ammunition, she greatly treasures it and finds it very useful when she does bring it along.

Makarova typically works as a bounty hunter or mercenary, mostly as a guard for various merchants or other small organizations.

Mental Trauma

Makarova has absolutely no idea who she is, or at least who she seems to resemble. She fears not only the possibility of never finding out her true identity but that if she does, she would feel out of place in her new life. Regardless of how gilded it may be, living a lie is not something she considers to be an acceptable fate.

Morality & Philosophy

Makarova is typically averse to bloodshed but is more than willing to incapacitate those she fights with non-lethal ammunition or by freezing them with ice magic. However, provided that her target crosses a line that threatens too many other people, she will not hesitate to take action and put them out of their misery. That being said, however, Makarova believes that if there was so much as a shred of "good" in someone she had to kill, they deserve a form of pity or grieving at the very least, rather than sympathy.
"I will shoot any evildoer down without mercy. But if they are one to regret their actions, if they were forced into it or at least acknowledge that they have sinned, then the least I may do for them is grieve."
Makarova believes that one should live true to themselves, which is why she so desperately seeks out her past, provided there were even memories to find in the first place. To her, the truth behind what one really wants is something that must be sought out, otherwise they would never be happy with where they are.

Makarova seeks to discover who she was in the past and what her identity was. She feels as though her past must have had something meaningful to it and wishes to find out who or what she used to be, or if anything about her even existed before her awakening in the lake.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Highly meticulous and always comes prepared for a job. It's her personal policy to have at least forty more bullets than what you expect to use. Cannot use modern slang properly.

Likes: Gambling (especially on slot machines or roulette tables), tea, warm food, reading, guns, firing her guns, the distinctive "PING" some of her older rifles make when reloading   Dislikes: New slang phrases, weapon maintenance, fighting slimes, vodka, inaccurate gun facts, swordsmen that act like show-offs, witches, midnight demons

Very patient and kind, traits that endear her to children that come across her. It's for this reason that she is called "Babushka" as a nickname. She can remain calm and composed under pressure, regardless of the circumstances.

Vices & Personality flaws

Can be rather stoic or hard to approach to most people regarding her line of work due to her serious demeanor showing very few cracks while on the job. This, of course, melts away the moment she has to speak to a young child. Makarova also tends to be stubborn or irritable, especially at night when she tries to get some rest. It's difficult to change her mind on almost anything she has mentally decided upon.

Contacts & Relations

Makarova is a member of the Nameless Vigil, which is really just a fancy name for Ryukari and Fio's friend group. Because she travels a lot, however, she isn't present for very many jobs that take place in Ralaneas, their hometown.

Makarova displays a serious, stoic demeanor when on the job due to her strong sense of responsibility, but is otherwise very amicable when its time to relax. She displays a great deal of patience and polite demeanor, especially towards children.

Makarova typically speaks rather politely or formally. She has a hard time keeping up with modern slang and tends to have a rather "old-fashioned" speech pattern with outdated phrases.

Clover is glad to finally have a human friend that doesn't seem to age, much like her. Makarova quickly warmed up to the rowdy ax-swinger after a few drinks and a heated discussion about guns. The two have helped each other as friends ever since, with Clover often looking for possible leads regarding Makarova's past or why her eyes are red.

Relationship Reasoning

Though Fio and Makarova have little in common, they get along as if they were family. Fio appreciates Makarova's concern for her despite never listening to her pleas to stop hunting criminal groups. Makarova treats Fio like she was her grandchild at times but is greatly fearful of her occupation as a killer of killers. She wonders what made Fio turn out this way, but given her secretive demeanor, it's not likely that she'll ever learn. All Makarova can do is watch over her friend and try to make sure she doesn't drive herself deeper into bloodlust.

Relationship Reasoning

Ryukari used to be put off by Makarova's icy attitude but eventually grew to care for her as if she were family. Makarova sees Ryukari as a bit of a womanchild, but knows she means well for her circle of friends. Though Makarova's constant traveling prevents them from seeing each other as much as everyone else, she greatly looks forward to the days when the "Ice Queen" visits Ralaneas once again.

Makarova earns quite a bit from her various hunting or guarding jobs and has amassed a large collection of firearms and tea for herself with those very funds.
