Lord Tahvo of Torncastle

Lord Tahvo Tumoluki (a.k.a. Lord Torncastle)

The lord of Torncastle, Tahvo is a cunning man looking to get ahead by any means available to him. Born into the noble house of Tumoluki, a historically vassalized house to the house of Maijalan who has been one of the most influential noble families within the Doric region. This history would play a key role in the outlook of Tahvo from a young age, though the Succession of the Suns civil war had ended on a widespread scale, many follow on conflicts have arisen. Tahvo's father had been involved in a conflict with his overlord, Surcount Markko of Siltala, supporting the Lord of Tamnu, Into Maijalan, whose grandfather had held the title and now sought to reclaim it for the house of Maijalan. Despite Tahvo's allies being numerous, Surcount Markko was backed financially both by the Bishop of Ortala and the Grand Duke himself. When the conflict came to an end, the treaty signed between the two belligerents was not only harsh for Into Maijalan, who was stripped of his castle in Tamnu and his holdings in the surrounding country, Tahvo's father was stripped of his title as Proviss of Torncaslte, and a quarter of the fiefs within the province transferred to Surcount Markko. This would all occur during Tahvo's formative years as a young man, just over two decades old.
It would not be until 7655, Tahvo would be thirty-three, that he would assume the title of Lord of Torncastle after his father had succumbed to a bad case of gout. Tahvo had already gained a reputation as an avid supporter of the Maijalan cause, undertaking responsibilities as a lawyer for many of the Maijalan claimants who sought to reclaim previously confiscated lands. When the Doric-Aijian War began, Tahvo would not take up arms with his overlord and old rival, Surcount Tapamak. Instead, Tahvo used this opportunity to strong-arm the many minor lords and officials who had been left in administration of the many vacant manors, convincing them of the shrewd policy of reducing his taxes. While before the war, a cow from his estate worth seven pennies may have been taxed reducing his intake to just five, now Tahvo saw his coffers beginning to grow due to this leniency. When the war ended, Lord Torncastle found himself in an unprecedented financial position, an income that would have sufficiently matched his claimed title of Proviss.
