Surcount Markko III of Siltala

Surcount Markko Tapamak

Markko was born into the old noble family Tapamak, his father Antero IV had long reigned as Surcount of Siltala before Markko, his second son, was born in his 55th year. Markko's older brother, Antero V, would assume the title not long after the former's 8th birthday. The little Markko would grow up in the court of his elder brother who treated him much like a son, providing him with much anything he needed as well as a solid education expected of any prestigious nobleman. Antero was tormented by reoccurring illnesses throughout life, born with a club-foot and harelip, he would prove stubborn and proficient as compensation for his often maligned maladies. Likely due to his troubles, Antero would father no children despite being married on several occasions, leading him to treat Markko much like his true heir.   Kulma was revealed as Markko's guardian upon his Declaration Day. This was an apt match for Markko as his adventurous nature would lead him towards the pursuit of military achievement and chivalric accomplishments. Markko had an affinity for the equestrian arts from a young age, becoming a renowned rider and even attended the military academy in Pilkala from the age of fourteen, earning honours and graduating as a cavalry officer. He would carry on his association with the military and, through a generous donation, become the Colonel of the Ukkala Lancer Regiment. He would bring great renown to the regiment, expanding it to two battalions and hand-picking its officers to create its reputation as an elite regiment.   Markko would be amongst the foremost generals of the Doric army during the Doric-Aijian War. Primarily utilised for his expertise in cavalry manoeuvre, Markko would be critical in spearheading the quick Doric advance into Aijia proper. However, Markko would become gravely injured during the Battle of Alcort Bridge where he was struck in his thigh by an errant arrow. Despite the best efforts of surgeons, the wound became infected and soon led to the drastic amputation of much of his right leg. Even so, Markko would die of his injuries just three days after Doric victory at Alcort.   Despite his often lauded reign as Surcount, Markko would leave behind a broken family upon his death. No children of his own and only distant cousins barely emerging from childhood as potential heirs, much of the Tapamak family estates would be redistributed by Armas IV upon the conclusion of the war.
