King-Elect Justus of Aijia
King-Elect Justus Andelwyn
Justus Andelwyn was born in Asjaer, son to one of the most prominent men in the republic, Willem of Andelwyn, whose family was effectively the holding of justiciary power within Aijia. Those long traditions of law would see Justus pursue a similar path once he had come of age, practising matter of law, especially as an arbitrator between the republic itself and foreign delegates who brought not only their concerns in troubled times but matters of trade and cooperation in good times. This would see Justus gain much experience in matters of state and gain great influence not only with those he worked for but those he worked with. At the relatively young age of thirty-three, Justus had managed to gain the favour of a large minority of the members of the Antemoire as well as several powerful foreign nobles, and with this power, he would begin his campaign to become King-Elect. Initially, this venture was not successful, Justus not gaining the votes he needed to oust the incumbent King-Elect Nimroj Woelde who had held the throne for ten years to that point by his reputation as a great military commander and fierce political negotiator. As the next election began to come around once more, Justus was again looking to push his candidacy. Woelde was beginning to age, threats externally to the republic seemed to have wained with the decline of the Duchy of Alva, Justus looked to seize on the appetite for change that Woelde's fifteen-year long reign had stirred. He stood once again at the election of 7652, where he would win a narrow victory.
Justus largely sought to overhaul Aijia's control of trade and travel within the region, arguing for his policies in the Antermoire as "a necessity so that Aijia may reap the just rewards it has grown as a necessity of its divine location and divinely granted prosperity." This would see trade and travel within the region fall under greater tariffs and restrictions, seeing minor voices of concern from those within and without, however, was greatly offset by the profits that were gained by invested parties. It would be these efforts that would secure Justus his second term as King-Elect in 7657. His second term would be somewhat underwhelming compared to the first, having become somewhat ill in 7568 with a harsh fever, leaving him bedridden for a number of weeks. It would only be late into this second term that Justus would again rally his followers as it seemed that war with the Grand Duchy of Canyndor would be inevitable. The war would begin in 7662, and with a reduced election in the Antemoire, Justus would be given a third term.
