Kappeli Dynasty

The Kappeli family is best known for their long-held control of the Surcounty of Rydant, less prominent branches of the dynasty further extend the influence of the family across Doria. The family is often easily identified by their wealthy status, even the lower class of nobles of the family would be found wearing fine silks and cloth, often in the shades of blue as matched the family heraldry. The crest of the family includes the gelded bear, a bear holding its own removed testicles within its paws, on a field of white and blue parted per fess. This has often led to many of the more notable members of the family being given the moniker "bear", such as the Black Bear Kappelli, former Grand Marshal of Canyndor, or the current Surcount of Rydant, Eerikki Kappelli who has been known as the "golden bear" due to his immense wealth.
The Kappelli's heritage in the Tila Valley region has led to a somewhat exclusionary culture amongst their ranks, influenced by the distinct culture of the uplands and Tila valley in comparison to the rest of Doria, which has often led to conflicts between the Kappelli's, rulers of Rydant, and the Grand Duke of Canyndor. A recent example of this is the refusal of Eerikki "the gold bear" Kappelli's refusal to join Grand Duke Arttu I in his war against Aijia. It was rumoured that this was closely linked to Eerikki's investments in Asjaer relating to trade, resulting in his reluctance to allow such a war to be fuelled by his own sword and grain.
