Hedfeld Camryd of Hestrja
Hedfeld Camryd Oldynrutz
Camryd Oldynrutz, born the second son of his father, Hedfeld of Hestrja before him, would go on to become one of the most powerful men in the Noble Republic of Aijia. He would do this not through military might as others had done, but instead, simply by being too useful to too many, his problem-solving abilities allowing him the good graces of countless nobles and even kings of the central kingdoms.
Being the second son, it would seem Camryd would stand to inherit much of his father's vast estates. As such, he would walk the path of an academic, being tutored by the famed Leowulder of Vallelitz in accounting and principles of law from a young age. By the time he was a man Camryd spoke five languages and was well versed in monetary matters and the fine details of feudal law. Seeking a professional reputation, Camryd would travel across the central kingdoms at first on the payroll of his father but quickly earned money and reputation enough to be independently wealthy and respected separately to his dynastic inheritance.
Though on many occasions, not least due to his foreign influence, Camryd had been encouraged by his fellow Aijian nobles to stand for the position of their elected king, though he refused at every turn. Though the position would afford him powers that would not be obtainable through any other means, it would also make many of his personal matters the business of the councillors and clerks of the inner royal courts, the sort of meddling that Camryd could not abide. Instead, he would play the peripheral player, often garnering more influence through his services and council than by direct title.
On the outbreak of the Doric-Aijian War, Camryd had been away in the Kingdom of Durabryn on business. Learning of the invasion, he began preparations, making due the favours and promises of clients and friends alike to amass the coin needed to pay for the Blazen Eagle Mercenary Company.
