The Chorus

The Chorus are worshippers of Choralei.

History

As all The 10 Pillars religions did, they emerged some time after Disus Kape discovered The 10 Pillars Structure. The Chorus was among the first to emerge as an organised religious body, and therefore is one of, if not the, most established today.   The initial group of devotees to truly commit themselves to this Pillar formed a structured religious order called the Chorus. This name symbolized their belief in harmonious unity and their collective voice in service to Choralei. Over the next few decades, the Chorus developed on the loose information that could be gleaned from the Pillars. They codified a set of rituals, prayers, and doctrines based on the principles attributed to Choralei. The dawn became a sacred time for communal worship, symbolizing renewal and the light of Choralei’s blessings. Initially a democratic group in concept, with the expanding influence moving far more rapidly than was expected, a leader was elected, the first Mouth. Due largely to the association with healing and the early-established clear hierarchy and organisation, the Chorus became the fastest growing of the Pillar religions, leaving it today as possibly the most formidable in terms of scale.

Tenets of Faith

The Chorus presents these as their tenets:
Healing is our sacred duty. Our communities must be protected. We live in communal harmony. Order must be maintained and respected. Above all, The Voice must be amplified.

Ethics

The Chorus fosters a disciplined, stoic, and highly organized community where duty to Choralei and the collective good takes precedence over individual desires and emotions. While their approach to healing and protection is effective, it is also characterized by a cold, clinical precision. They place a high value on order and discipline. Members are expected to adhere strictly to rituals, routines, and hierarchical structures. Personal freedoms are often secondary to the needs and rules of the community.   Continuous education in both magical and non-magical healing arts, as well as spiritual teachings, is emphasized. Members are expected to dedicate significant time to study and practice.

Priesthood

Their leader is known as The Mouth Of The Voice, a figure who represents the organised church. Currently, this figure is a Human named Zhaoang. They are supported by two Conductors, and a group of 10 Harmonisers. These are responsible for making major decisions regarding the faith and overseeing particular regions. These major members tend to remain at the temple in Saeai aside from temporary travel.   Regional Harmonies are found in larger cities, running major temples. They will usually have one Harmoniser heading them, with a few Choir leaders under them, who direct the general Choir.   Smaller areas have local Choirs with usually a single Choir leader, depending on size.   Harmonisers and above usually have a tattoo of the symbol of Choralei, usually on the neck. Becoming a member of the Chorus beyond the level of the general Choir is a rigorous process, involving extensive vetting, training, and initiation rites. Only those deemed worthy and capable are accepted. Advancement within the Chorus is based on merit, demonstrated through service, adherence to the rules, and proficiency. However, this creates a competitive environment where individuals strive to prove their worth.
