Kaelund, region
The region in Meridan controlled by the allied cultures that make up the country of Kaelund.
Meridan's Wild West, complete with dinosaurs, desert, and giant insects.
Geography
Kaelund is best known for the vast, rocky desert that spans the middle of the region from the northern border to Karoke in the south. Resembling the American Midwest, the desert features vast canyons and rocky flatlands.
To the east and west of the desert are more fertile areas. On the east, Kaelund abuts the ocean, resulting in a long forested region that follows the coastline. On the west, the great Lake Kaelund offers similar fertility and a consistent water supply. Unknown to most, a great underground tunnel created by the Serpent of Kaelund leads from Lake Kaelund to the sea, allowing quiet transit and keeping the water level consistent.
Fauna & Flora
Kaelund is known for its wild dinosaur population. The region's current ruler, Kelsey of Kaelund, hates the things, and her people are known for producing the best dinosaur-leather boots on the continent.
History
The region that is now Kaelund was once used as a dueling field by cataclysmically powerful mages. There is reason to believe that it was these duels, and not natural processes, that created the great desert and canyons of central Kaelund.
