2025/02/07: A Materials Hunt in Kaelund Part 5 Report

General Summary

Malakai, Knight, Kal'vus, Zess, Ba'alzamon, Kelsey, Kitsa   Castle Kaelund was about 90 miles from the spot in the Great Rift where the colossal kaiju was climbing out to begin its rampage. The monster was a blue-black-slate-colored giant lizard that looked like a cross between an ankylosaurus and a greater basilisk. Its eyes appeared as triangles of slate. It was moving at about 18 miles an hour, so the party had five hours before it arrived at the castle.   Meanwhile, Knight was escorting the saurials and the eggs through the dream realm. (Kal'vus, exhausted, was sleeping in the transport pocket dimension.) They found themselves in a giant picnic scene, with enormous scale. They survived a fight against several 30-foot-tall flying bananas. And then a whole fruit salad. The saurials got pretty beat up, but Knight's navigation was perfect, and the lot of them escaped directly into Castle Kaelund.   Ba'alzamon went to go scan the giant monster. It has layers and layers of armor, at least ten feet thick of antimagic-inscribed plates of magically enhanced bone. The tensile strength is slightly less than steel, but it's a lot more flexible. The creature also has a very high regeneration rate. The plates are resistant to most elemental and physical damage up to a certain threshold. The threshold is enormous.   The lizard is at least 1000 feet tall.   Among other preparations: Made a deal with Memnon. Kelsey wanted to bring the king of the Blackmoores along, but Ythomb (who is Destiny) said that would be a bad idea. Too many great beings watching. Zess went to find mercenaries on Argerus, or more specifically to find mecha to rent. Found a man in debt with a giant dragon-themed mecha. About 450 feet tall. Covered in tags, not the most professional, but still pretty intimidating. The pilot's name is Hargaz. His former mercenary unit was the Fire Breathers, but they aren't around anymore. It's a sad story, but everyone got out alive.   The giant creature has no mouth or exit.   Ripley joined in on the helping. He's actually put on some muscle. Ba'alzamon and Kitsa went to go try to make friends with the giant serpent in the lake. They rode a green dragon to get there.   The giant serpent was sleeping. Kitsa booped its snoot, to little effect. It slowly woke and opened its emerald-green eye when Ba'alzamon nudged it in the lifestream. It appears to be some sort of sea green sea/nature linnorm. Kitsa set to bardic music to help it wake up more.   Ba'alzamon respectfully told it of the trespasser in its territory. He informed it that forces had been gathered to help drive the monster away. The linnorm replied only with an angry "no" and began to make its ponderous but unstoppable way to the surface.   The linnorm came out of the water, grabbed the monster by the leg, and whipped it into the water with it. Back at the castle, a scared Memnon said that was the signal to attack. No more preparations; it was time to bring all the gathered firepower to bear.
