Kierst Isle
A tropical island off Kaelund's eastern coast. Formerly a pirate haven, the island now hosts a military base owned by the Kingdom of Kaelund. The island would be unremarkable and fairly unlivable if not for its position off the coast of Kaelund and the Eastern Realms' main trade corridor.
Geography
A tropical desert isle, Kierst Isle is really more of a sandy, rocky shoal with delusions of grandeur than any sort of tropical paradise.
The island's northwest is mostly flat and sandy. Its southeast is rocky and hilly. Towards the center of the island, the hills rise to a vaguely mountainous peak. The east side of the island features dangerous shoals, making the west side preferred for port facilities.
Despite being almost at sea level, the island features entrances to numerous cave systems large enough for humans to navigate. Many of the caves are filled with water, however, making water-breathing magic a necessity for most exploration.
Localized Phenomena
Exploration of one deliberately sealed cave system has revealed that there is a font of necromantic energy under the island. Whatever its source, it is strong enough to rival the effects of the Isle of Necromancy, automatically generating and greatly empowering undead within its radius. Fortunately, that radius does not reach the surface, and the undead seem uninterested in venturing above.
Fauna & Flora
Primarily home to seagulls, grabs, and various beach critters.
History
Pirates, thieves, and criminals had a thriving town at the center of the island, but after their defeat to the forces of Kaelund the city was wiped out and a naval outpost was established to protect the trade route nearby.
Mages from the Animus Society secretly moved into the island's hidden cave systems sometime around 20 ARL, taking advantage of the necromantic font there.
