2025/04/04: Searching Kierst Isle Part 5
General Summary
Knight, Buzz, Malakai, Rusti, Kal'vus, Kelsey
Kelsey had gone out to see what was going on with Rapsity last session. It turns out Rapsity had showed up with the young man who was the potential new archmage of Kaelund.
"Screaming at Rapsity is one of her favorite things to do, so yes." - Kelsey's player, in response to the suggestion that she's yelling up at Rapsity rather than flying up to talk to him. (She did go up to talk to him privately after a few back and forths.)
Rapsity quietly revealed what he'd learned. It turns out the kid is a dragon, and is the son of a really big and horrifyingly powerful green dragon from Rapsity's neck of the woods. Rapsity has a detente with the dad, who is even better at magic than he is. This whole situation is like a mafioso's kid being told to get hired on somewhere as experience. Plus it's a way for the son to get away from "dear old dad".
Teregrun wants to show off magical knowledge and get headpats, basically. His dad is maybe not the most supportive.
After some discussion, Kelsey followed Rapsity's advice to take Teregrun along into the dungeon. He does know a lot about magic, and it was a chance for him to gain more experience and prove himself.
While the two were talking, a weird ship showed up in the sea nearby. Kelsey decided to go join up with the rest of the party before going to deal with that. She caught up with them as they were looking in on the final painting room.
After some brief strategizing, the party headed into the final painting room. The painting's occupants once more climbed from its surface to oppose them.
This crew was the most exotic yet seen.
The captain, a beautiful woman with sequins dual-wielding sabres.
A bunch of fairies.
A creepy man in green robe with tassels. He was a snake person, yuan-ti style.
Eight lively-looking crewmen in rainbow striped shirts.
A centauric mecha unicorn with a spiraling unicorn horn lance and a shield. He was about 18 feet tall. He might have been an iron golem, but sparkly.
Contingencies went off. Dancing lights and various fogs appeared everywhere, turning visibility to near 0. They were supplemented by a fairy bell tinkling noise that was silly, foolish, and nerve-achingly annoying. There was the distinct sense that the party was being mocked. The golem proved capable of instantly interposing its lance between itself and any attackers, outright preventing melee strikes on its person. Naturally, it was also immune to magic. Fortunately, while the rest of the opposition had vanished into the sensory maelstrom, they proved far more vulnerable to blades and blast effects once sensory enhancement unveiled their locations. After a long fight, the enemies finally went down. As the golem fell, a sound of a crowd cheering slowly rose round the party. As it reached a crescendo, a pillar of water rose in the center of the room and deposited a large, barnacle-encrusted pirate treasure chest. Inside were a variety of very swashbucklery items. They didn't appear to be cursed. It turned out that this had been the Captain of the Eight Sovereign Seas trial. Whoever wears the piece of eight found in the chest will officially be a Captain of the Eight Sovereign Seas. All victorious participants are now considered Sailors of the Eight Sovereign Seas, making them eligible for weird prestige classes of a piratical nature. A dream nail tap against the chest revealed that it belongs to a collective of ancient sea gods who represent the freedom of the seas. They are an anti-law subset of sea gods, supporting piracy, freedom fighters, exploration, all that. They want people to do great things. Great good things, great bad things, they don't care. With the first dungeon officially complete, the party searched for the door into the second dungeon. Investigation revealed that in the corner where one would expect the next door to be, the wall was permeable; air was flowing into it, but any holes were absolutely tiny. When Knight stuck his head in, he found that there seemed to be some force pushing back on insubstantial creatures. It was likely that only a gaseous form would be able to pass through to the party's true objective.
