Foreign Quarter

Demographics

If you are not Dorian or Theosian and you work in the city, the odds are you live in the Foreign Quarter. Housing tends to be in clusters according to race and ethnicity. Each of these neighborhoods looks out for its own, and rarely mixes with the others. Humans who come to Mystemere from outside of the The Duchy will find themselves here.

Infrastructure

The Foreign Quarter lies between the inner and outer walls on the north side of Mystemere. The North Road passes through the city gates within the Foreign Quarter. The inner wall gates open onto the Spice Market to the south. The streets in this area are especially narrow, twisted and end in alley ways. It is easy to get lost if you don't know your way around.

Assets

This is mostly a residential area, but a few services can be found in family homes, if you know where to look. There are also a couple shrines set up for those who don't want (or are unable) to make the trek to the The Blessed Way.   Local "shops"
  • Drop's Place - Fishing gear and guide for river fishing by Sakasta guide Drop in the Pond
  • Happy Crocks and Pots - Pottery for daily use by Sam Tosscobble in the halfling neighborhood
  • House Silverfang - A local dwarven healer, Branna Silverfang lives here.
  • The Weaver - Daily wear made by elven hands, by Irel Toroth
  Shrines
  • The Circle of Vines - A shrine to Kor made of mosaic vines in a cirlce around a flat green stone. It is located in the western side of the quarter where most of the First Folk live.
  • The Grey Pillar - A shrine to Nyk in the far eastern side of the quarter.
  • Lucky stick - An orange stick stuck in the ground, not far from the North Road gate that some travelers will offer a brief prayer to Emid.
  • The Shade Tree - A relaxing place and a shrine of sorts to Tillia in the halfling neighborhood.
  • Shrine of the Silver Bowl - A shrine to Alesh in the Dwarven neighborhood.

Guilds and Factions

While there are no factions per se, each neighborhood takes care of itself. The city guard doesn't come here much, except to enforce the gates and man the city walls. As such the locals handle crime and punishment in their own way. While the area is diverse, most people get along. But troublemakers are quickly identified and banished. It is feared that any extended trouble in the Foreign Quarter could bring down the wrath of the Duke's Army.

Tourism

Most visitors pass through this area to get to the Spice Market. And while some street entertainers and a few locals do hawk wares and services as city guides, few stay long. It is mostly an area for locals and frequented by locals.

Architecture

While not quite as ramshackle and beat up as The Nest, this area resembles the Old Quarter a bit more. The buildings are mostly made of wood, and tightly together. A few stone buildings for a kiln or forge can be found, but they are rare. Each neighborhood has it's own flavor, adding specific touches to the housing style. The Dwarven nighborhood has used geometric carvings on their homes, and integrated stone elements where they could. The halfllings area is all single story with round conical thatched roofs. The Sakata live in some of the taller buildings, nearly three stories high, and with areas to climb up quickly. It is a curious but interesting jumble mix of styles,
