Thaumaturgist's Projector
"This will change not only the fundamental views of our magic but the world! I must find a way to make use of this device even more..."Though the specifics of how this device was created is unknown to all but a few of the Magisterium researchers, the Thaumaturgist's Projector is a well-utilised piece of arcane technology. Simply put, when an object is held over the device, the object will be secured in place by arcane energies. Then, after a moment of it initializing, the device will display what magical effects may be affecting the object, what those effects do, and how they might be ended if necessary, on a small magical display that will appear.
- Alberron Holimion
Creation
When Alberron Holimion poured his essence into the mithril and opened his Mind's Eye to forge the Projector, he had no idea what would become of his efforts. The creation of the Projector was an unprecedented event and one that took an enormous strain on Holimion. After the forging of the Projector, Holimion collapsed and remained bedridden for weeks before being able to conjure the strength to raise himself from his bed and begin his study into what precisely he created.
Usage
Since its inception, there have been a total of fifteen Projector creations forged by Holimion, each spread across the Eight Lands to Magisterium halls for the allowance of studying arcane artefacts in a secure manner. Without the looming danger of miscasting, studies on arcane creations forged ahead tenfold. The usage of the Thaumaturgist's Projector is the explicit divining of magical effects, being what they are and how they work. Though it is possible, placing a being above the Projector is ill-advised if the being has a strong magical connection as it could overload the Projector. As well as this, the inverse applies. Placing a non-magical being can overload them with magical energy and could cause them to erupt in arcane fire.
I'm a little bit unsure what it is the machines do and why they're important. Does it just reveal what magic to the operator? Sort of like an identifier machine?

Pretty much. Think the "Identify" spell from D&D except a bit better. The usage of these machines is free for anyone who can't cast magic, or simply can't detect magic, and are available at your not-so-local-because-we-don't-have-many Magisterium hall.
