Embersnake

"Look, I get it, you're not a fan of snakes, but look at this little guy! HE'S SO WARM AND CUDDLY!"
— Someone who was quickly made fun of

Smouldering

Found generally around large sources of heat, though not to the extremes of the ashen serpent, embersnakes are small and volatile in nature. They tend towards protective violence, enacting their ferocity against whoever and whatever is causing any kind of bother at the time.   It's main method of enacting this ferocity is its large, dagger-like teeth which are capable of sending a deadly dose of venom through its prey. The venom they inject into their foes causes them to feel like they are burning from the inside, however the alternate isn't much better. When they are unable to inject their foe with their poison, they instead breath it out as a noxious gas which then ignites by them sparking their rear most teeth together.

Sparking

Born in clutches of eggs, usually several at a time, embersnakes are remarkably community based for creatures who tend so much towards violence.   Their families remain from birth to death, all of them staying in a large hunting area that they have claimed as their territory. While embersnakes can cross territories if needed, should they be caught by other embersnakes then they should expect a fight where only one of them comes out of it alive.   Interestingly, while embersnakes are immune to their own venom, they are not immune to their fire. The inside of their mouth and throat are heavily resistant to burning, however if they use their flame enough, that resistance will be eaten away at, leaving their mouths charred and them unable to eat.   Most embersnakes, for this reason, tend not to use their fire unless absolutely necessary, even in fights against their own kind.

Say, can these be domesticated and/or used as a heating source?   Also, yeah... cute and cuddly, and can burn you alive. Sweet. :P

Yes and no, you could use one to start a fire, but that's...about it for being used as a heat source. Glad you enjoyed giving them a read!

They are definitely fun sounding... until you wake up and everything outside the stove is cooking... with their seldom use of the flames, these guys can lead you into that false sense of "it might not kill me"

Definitely, but they are cute!

i don't know, in wintery cold areas the fire thing could serve to make them even more huggable.

Oh no, ouchies in their mouthies! How large are their territories usually?

Dec 20, 2021 10:40 by Andrew

Usually about a mile radius, not massively huge but big enough for them!
