"Darling, wake up! You have to wake up..."— Unknown
Lying in the Dusk
For a time, and very rarely since, people all across the Eight Lands fell into a deep sleep, unable to be shaken from it by any means. This sleep became their reality for a time, their dreams continuing as if nothing was preventing them from waking.
As the days passed, the dreams of each individual seemed to collide with the dreams of others, creating almost an entire world of their own layered just slightly above their true reality, as if barely untethered from their plane of existence. They passed as one would pass another on the street, barely noticing one another or the strangeness that may be happening in the others dreams. Those of whom who met another they knew in their dream simply passed it as coincidence; their mind pulling a face they know from memory to fill the gaps between their desired thoughts.
The rare times that dreams would collide directly, the owners of the dream would begin seizing in their beds, the strain of two minds working against each other in the pursuit of their own desires.
Rising in the Dawn
Weeks passed, turning into months, before the dream layer seemed to begin to shed its woven threads and allow the afflicted to wake once more. The bodies of the afflicted were unchanged by the time in their dream, continuing as they would if they had been awake, losing nothing but the months of time in their dreams.
During the time in their dreams, many members of the
Magisterium watched over the afflicted, attempting to figure out what was causing this magical connection. To simply understand that there was, indeed, a connection between the afflicted took the efforts of every diviner in
Turnhaven, an effort of which left them shaken with blood in their mouths and dripping from their faces.
The cause of this phenomenom is still unclear, though some speculate that it may be the work of
Lirra the Dreamer. Every instance since the first has been rapidly investigated, though none have lasted as long, reaching barely a month at their longest.
oooohhh okay this is cool and mystical as *** and very interesting. Barring the loss of time they are unharmed....at least it would seem. They do not starve, suffer dehydration or the like. That would imply they somehow gain sustenance, or their bodies go into a stasis of sorts almost. Very cool, and a condition that definitely is mysterious, particularly if the affliction has roots or is caused by this Lirra individual. For what purpose? Is it a curse? An illness? if so how does it transmit? If a virus, the organism that causes it what does it get out of this? It clearly doesn't feed on the bodies of the victims...does it feed on the dreams? On the lost time itself? So many questions, which fits the narrative of the lack of understanding. I like it very much :)
Perhaps the answers will come in a dream...
