Dockyards
At the bottom of a sheer cliff and circling around the waterfall of the River Asherton, the Dockyards are the main port of entrance for anyone coming to Port Shimmerly. There are three separate dockyards, all connected by a pier, each with its own purpose.
Each dockyard also has its own dedicated elevator, a simple pulley system designed to lift tremendous weight up to the top of the cliffs with relatively little effort.
Dockyard I
Port for visitors & travelers. Smallest of the Yards. All visitors must pass through Traveler's Relations before entering town. The lift in DYI is 150' tall, and can lift 1000lbs.Dockyard II
Port for merchants & traders. This is where the majority of trade goods are imported and exported from the area. Often the lift in Dockyard I is used for trade goods on very busy days, and for items that don't need to go through the Warehouse. The lift in DYII is 180' tall, and can lift 4000lbs. The lift exits at the Warehouse and is pulled most commonly by draft horses.Dockyard III
Property of the Port Shimmerly City Guard. Militia-operated. A gate separates this from the rest of the connected piers, although it is clearly more for show as it is easily overcome. The lift in DYIII is 100' tall and can lift 1500lbs. It exits into the training yard in the Guard Complex.In-Game History
Dockyard I has been most relevant during game play. It is the dockyard where those party members who sailed into town arrived, and it is where Lord Understone's floating brothel was raided. Coris and Samuel have briefly gone down Lift III to DYIII to interview Henderson.Description
As you breach the hull into the mercifully clean and crisp afternoon air, you see that you are docked on a long pier in front of a towering cliffside. Your ship is docked near the front of the pier, near where it joins a long curving boardwalk that hugs the edge of the cliff. To the North, you see a frothy waterfall spilling over the edge of the cliffs, and past that, two other dockyards bustling with dock workers unloading and loading cargo. You and the other passengers are jostled to a large platform with a short railing connected to a pulley at the top of the cliffs. About five at a time, the passengers are lifted to the top of the cliffs.
When you board the lift, you feel very secure. It doesn’t wobble or creak, and seems to be lifting you and your companions with ease. You follow the queue of immigrants through a path to a building with a sign that proclaims “Traveler Relations”.
