1.09.5 - Coris's Investigation

General Summary

As experienced by Coris: After the rest of the party leaves, you and Gherd turn back towards the boat you just departed. You realize that something has been bothering you since you pulled yourself onto the dock disguised as Kyrion -- the boat doesn’t look the same. It’s the same size and shape, the same number of masts, but the figurehead on the bow is a more stately, classy mermaid as opposed to the suggestively posed nymph that had been there on your way in. The trimmings and molding are carved with slightly different, less ostentatious motifs, and the distinctive navy blue detailing has vanished. Before you floats a considerably less luxurious vessel which is almost forgettably mundane.   On the deck, the fairy lights which had been hanging overhead have been snuffed out. In fact, all of the spells you noticed on your way in seem to have been removed (you recall that, on your way in, the lights were not visible until you boarded the boat, and sounds from within were not audible on the docks even when they should have been). The captain’s quarters on the main deck is locked, but your companion is able to gain entry. It appears to be mundane; a desk, seafaring supplies, compasses, maps of the Sword Coast -- even a Captain’s Log, which is completely empty. There is also a chest with some sailing clothes and a small cot. As you make your way down the stairs, you notice that the layout of the boat is exactly as it was before. You are certain that this is the same boat, only stripped on the illusions and enchantments that made it look luxurious and cozy. The lower deck is still comprised of stalls with thick velvet curtains in various stages of being flung open. The benches and tables are all still in place; even the wine stains remain on the seat that the Baron’s son, Klaus, had occupied. Similarly, glassware and empty bottles litter the area. The boat, however, is eerily silent. In fact, you do not find a single soul aboard the vessel. In the room at the stern (back) of the lower deck (where you had seen the girls go to get supplies and congregate), you find silver trays with half-eaten arrays of cheeses and grapes, as well as a crate of wine of various styles. The room is largely taken up by the housing for the rudders of the ship. In the room with the stairs to the main deck, you also find a set of stairs leading down into the hold. In the hold, you find dusty crates labeled as various mercantile goods that look as though they haven’t been touched in weeks. There is a fair amount of general seafaring equipment; while this clearly isn’t a vessel that would be comfortable to live in for long journeys, it does appear to be frequently used. There is one particularly interesting feature in the hull; there is a distinctly empty and clean and vaguely circular area in the center of the room with a 10-foot diameter. You realize it is a recently used teleportation circle.
