Erekiath

Erekiath is a country that has a lot of conflict in its past but has been a haven of peace for hundreds of years. Creatures like goblins and trolls are things of the past, and magic has been outlawed, in the name of peace and security. The country is governed by The Light a religious institution dedicated to the protection of people and nature.

Structure

There are three institutions that makes up the leadership in Erekiath. The Council of Elders, The City Council and the Erekian Nobility. Nobility in Erekiath is ruled by the Monarch, who is elected by The Council of Elders. In each major city, there's a Temple of Light housing The Council of Elders. From there they oversee the The City Council and the nobility, making sure they adhere to The Pact of The Light.
The Monarch govern the Erekian Nobility and the Lords, while they govern their respective cities or territories. In some cases, even Knights may be granted land to govern.
While the Monarch and Lords are the governing powers, The Council of Elders and The City Council have the authority to overrule or in extreme cases, depose a Lord and even the Monarch.

Culture

Since The Light is very invested in nature, it spends many resources maintaining the balance between civilization and nature. This means that Erekiath's agriculture is very strong, partially because of the fertile lands, but also because most farmers tend to be very knowledgable about nature, particularly agriculture.

Public Agenda

Governed by The Light, Erekiath strives for equality and peace among all races and genders. Although this is the primary philosophy, in practical terms, the country is dominated by male human leadership.

Demography and Population

Erekiath is mainly populated by humans, but also consider elves, dwarves, little people, and orcs as civilized races. Most of the country has been cleansed of monsters and uncivilized races like goblins or kobolds.   Orcs used to be considered an uncivilized race, but small tribal communities have been allowed to live on the Plains of Erekiath. These tribes are mostly self-governed but are ultimately required to adhere to the laws of the country.   Population by percentage
  • Humans - 68%
  • Elves - 14%
  • Mixed races, eg. half-elves & half-orcs - 6%
  • Halflings/Little people - 6%
  • Dwarves - 3%
  • Orcs - 2%
  • Others - 1%

Military

As with most things in Erekiath, the military is controlled by The Light , Their armies consist primarily of paladins, knights, and soldiers. Although Erekiath has a strong army, the philosophy of The Light is to protect, and as such most of the military education is focused on defensive combat. In order to become a Knight or Paladin, a person must also excel at diplomacy, as combat is meant to be a last resort.

Religion

The country is governed by The Light who is responsible for appointing the Monarch and the Lords of the realm. Only people that have been knighted by The Light can be considered for any of the titles.

Foreign Relations

The neighbor country Sylvania is one of the few countries where magic is legal. Although Erekiath considers magic illegal, they live in relative peace with their elven neighbors. At the border, on the Sylvanian side, there's a zone called 'The Grey Zone' where any practice of magic is prohibited, to keep it away from the Erekian borders.

Agriculture & Industry

Erekiath holds a lot of good farmland and has thriving agriculture. Although there are two big forests in the country, they have a conservative use of timber, mainly because of the nature-loving aspect of The Light.

Trade & Transport

The Path of Light is a road going across the country from north to south. It is considered the safest road in the country and is frequented with caravans, with the highest density going between Haistone  and Aurora.
Most of the trade infrastructure, including road maintenance is managed by the Erekian Trade Union.

Education

Most education is handled through Temple of Light.

Infrastructure

Most cities in Erekiath are built close to rivers, giving them adequate water supplies.
Dwarven sewage systems are present in most larger cities, but as they are expensive, they are mostly found in the richer part of the cities.

Grain, livestock, and horses are produced in abundance in Erekiath and are traded across the sea, and to The Snowy Peaks to the north. Grain is also traded to Sylvania.
Major Imports
Since Erekiath is mostly self-sufficient with food, imports are mostly luxury goods, such as exotic foods and plants, as well as rare metals like platinum and mithrillium. Furthermore, they rely on trade with The Snowy Peaks also known as The Copadurian Empire for common metals like iron and steel, due to the lack of natural deposits within their own borders.

The Council of Elders have the primary legislative power, but is often handled by or together with The City Council depending on the situation.
