The Claw Swamp

The Claw Swamp lies in the south-western part of Erekiath and compared to the rest of the country, it has very unique flora and fauna.
The swamp drains into several small rivers that merge into a bigger one. This unique pattern resembles a claw, which is how it got its name.
Due to the dampness and heat, the swamp is constantly enclosed in a thick fog. The fog is only a shell around the swamp, however, and once you're through the shell, there's no fog, except for near the treetops. Some believe that magic may be involved in this phenomenon.

Fauna & Flora

Most trees in the swamp are large and gnarly trees, largely covered with moss or algae on the lower parts, especially those that grow in mud or water. Most of the trees have really large treetops, only letting in small amounts of sunlight. This causes a lot of the plants to grow quite tall. The trees close to the rivers are entwined in large veins from various plants seeking sunlight.
There's also a lot of different mushrooms growing in the marsh, a lot of them are luminescent in various colors, and are quite the sight to behold at night. Most of these mushrooms are not edible, in fact, most plants in The Claw Swamp are not suitable for eating.
Most of the animals are aquatic or semi-aquatic in nature, including frogs, toads, and alligators. As long as one stays out of the muddy and watery areas, the only real confirmed danger is the snake, not counting the dangers of the swampy terrain, like mud pits. The waters, however, are particularly dangerous, mainly due to the large population of alligators.
There's also a huge variety of insects, including mosquitoes and various types of flies, like the harmless Lightningfly.

Natural Resources

Since very little exploration has been made of the swamp, no natural resources have been found. The plant life have been determined to be mostly inedible, and hunting animals inside the swamp are not feasible either. The terrain is hard to traverse, and there are many predators, making it dangerous.

History

The Swamp hasn't always been there. Inside the swamp are the ruins of an old tower, believed to predate the swamp, likely from before The Second Conflict of the Gods. Only broken walls remain of the tower, and a collapsed shaft, leading into the ground, thus it is often referred to as The Shaft.
