Any individual in the colonized systems may be affiliated with one, many, or none of these factions, depending on their home planet, splice, employer, and/or life situation. Most individuals are only considered “citizens” of one faction at a time - generally the corp that provides them their housing and employment. About 59% of humanity is in debt to their home corporation and is working to achieve a net-zero before accruing savings. On occasion, individuals might be freelance, and the truly entrepreneurial may have worked out some other arrangement entirely. Most organized religions and non-profits are also considered corporations, though there are fewer of these than ever. Although citizens of one corp may interact with many other corps in their work or social life, this is not considered citizenship. Beyond corporations, factions include membership in causes as defined by splice, cause, or mission statement, regardless of how formal the infrastructure is. For example, The Greens is not a specific corporation - it is a loose political alliance of individuals and corps working towards the goal of increased terraforming among Edge worlds.
