Tale of Eribur

The Tale of Eribur is the story of a young hero, Eribur, and his venture intoMear'anouned.

Summary

Eribur was a curious relic hunter. On one adventure he met and fell madly in love with a scholar named Yarsha. She too fell madly in love with Eribur. Yarsha had an extensive library with sealed forbidden texts. She had the wisdom to leave these text sealed. Eribur suspected these sealed tomes could grant him insight to find ancient treasures. His curiosity drove him to delve into the forbidden tomes. The dark secrects called out to Vodek hounds.   Later that night the hounds arrived at Yarsha's library. Yarsha had the misfortune of being the first they encountered, and they dragged her soul to Selimbar. In the morning Eribur discovered her dead body. He deduced the cause of her death. In grief he burned the forbidden tomes and set out to find a way to venture to Selimbar to rescue his fallen love.   After long journeyings Eribur found a entry ritual to enter into .Mear'anouned. With various ancient war relics, he delved into the forsaken realm. Once he arrived in Mear'anouned, Yarsha quickly found him. Together they fled towards the point Eribur entered Mear'anouned. As Eribur was performing the ritual to leave Mear'anouned a Vodek hound arrived, returning from a hunt elsewhere. Yarsha escaped to Ospur, but Eribur chose to slay the hound before leaving. He reached Ospur safely. For months, Eribur and Yarsha lived in Yarsha's library happily.   However, Vodek hounds do not remain dead for long. Eventually the same hound that Eribur slew came for him in the night, and he was finally punished for delving into dark secrets. Yarsha mourned him for a time, but was wise enough to let affairs rest. She lived to a ripe old age among her living family, and friends in her grand library.

Historical Basis

While Eribur and his actions are completely apocryphal, there is some evidence that Yarsha and her great library existed in the Hub before it was abandoned during the Reaper Imperium Scour Airship bombings. While the structure itself has been lost, there is hope that the countless tomes it contained remain scattered and waiting for a clever scholar to recollect.

Variations & Mutation

The exact culpability of Yarsha varies in various versions of the tale. In some tellings the forbidden tomes were not in Yarsha's collection but were brought by Eribur in his arrogance.   There is also variance as to the nature of the ritual that permitted Eribur access into Mear'anouned. One unique telling even suggest Eribur had no part in entering or exiting Mear'anouned and was infact summoned by Yarsha to bring her some artifact she needed to escape Mear'anouned
