Lord Conrad Gridlock
While Midland doesn't have a feudal system, it does still present a class system. Lord Conrad is one of those in the upper class, the VERY upper class. House Gridlock's master is a wealthy merchant with control over a good portion of Firstown's port. Through his instinct and loads of family money, Conrad hired enough privateer to protect his ships from all threats, both monster and pirates. As such, his transport business is basically unopposed.
Conrad doesn't move much from his mansion at the edge of Firstown, but he doesn't interact much with his family because of his dubious yet profitable work. His wife and three sons aren't, but his daughter does have his attention as the favorite. It is possible this tension for their rich favor's love might bite Conrad in the back someday, but for now, he has bigger fishes, businesses, and political opponents to fry, literally.
Wealth & Financial state
Immensely wealthy, Conrad owns about four ships and various warehouses in Firstown's port. They contain loads of precious items such as gems from the Demon Empire, metals from Kingdom of Blunter, or spices from the August Menia Kindom.
