Vía Titania
The Via Titania is the largest road in Belcantas and the continent's main trade artery. It travels from the heart of the city of Val-Nurem, across the fertile fields of Dreibach, through the Gaeno Woods, and ends at the Royal Almaviva Palace in Cantonova.
Purpose / Function
The Vía Titania is a major trade artery between the Dreibach Empire and Cantonova. It carries people and goods safely and quickly across the countryside, including through the sometimes dangerous and fey-laden Gaeno Woods.
Architecture
The Vía Titania is well-paved throughout with sandstone bricks from the quarries south of Val-Nurem. The road is set at a consistent width of 17 feet throughout, wide enough for two wagons to safely cross in opposite directions. The stones have largely been polished smooth by the amount of foot and vehicle traffic on them; because of this and its yellowish color, it is sometimes called the "Golden Road."
History
The Vía Titania was constructed after the end of the War of Great Sorrow as a measure of peace between the King of Dreibach and Count Almaviva I. The Gaeno Woods had been heavily damaged during the years of fighting, but this allowed the construction of a clear path with relatively little danger.
Tourism
The Vía Titania is a major conduit for tourism as well as trade. People from far-flung villages seek it out to safely travel to Val-Nurem or Cantonova, major destinations for casual visits as well as for their economic and academic prowess. In the summers, caravans of village children and teenagers seeking Tenser's Trueself rely on the road to take them to Cantonova, where the spell is largely subsidized by local government.
