Machine of the Nexus
The Machine of the Nexus is a powerful Devil summoned to the Hall of the Daemon Ascendant during the Blood Moon's Nexus by the Company of Hades. It is thought to live somewhere just beyond The Wall.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Machine is a writhing mass of flayed flesh and whirring machinery; it is difficult to tell where one ends and the other begins. Its six arms are wrapped in blackened chains held on by nails, spikes, and screws, and end in grasping talons of black iron. Wheels and gears punctuate its body at odd angles. Parts of its torso, legs, and head appear to be made of piles of scrap metal rather than any fleshlike base. Its mouth is a pair of red, insect-like pincers strong enough to crack skulls. A winch on its hip turns its stomach open, revealing a second maw of grinding gears that can turn a mortal's body to pulp in seconds. Its silver eyes have hexagonal pupils, and its eyelids are sewn back with barbed wire. It primarily draws victims in with a long, whiplike chain; it is unclear if this is a weapon it carries or a psychically controlled extension of one of the many chains on and within its body.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The Machine of the Nexus, when it is summoned, is always ravenously hungry for both the bodies and the souls of humanoids. Special spells and blessings have to be placed on the clerics of the Company and the chainguards who patrol the arena to mask their scent from the Machine, so that it only consumes the designated prisoners. Even so, a few priests, chainguards, and even audience members per year are killed when its bloodlust is particularly strong, though the Company ensures that all such accidental sacrifices are cared for in the Conservatory of Souls.
