Eye and Hand of Vecna

The Eye and Hand of Vecna were the last remaining pieces of Vecna, the tyrannical ancient disciple of Morigana who became the first Lich and ruled over ancient Bjália in the seventh through ninth centuries of the Age of Anxiety. According to legend, they were originally the left hand and left eye of the scribe Navec.

The Eye of Vecna was a pure silver orb that could replace an eyeball in an empty socket. It was said to grant sight unlike any mortal's: the foresight of supernatural intelligence, the ability to see through any illusion, and divination powers that could allow one to see the future and past as easily as even the greatest Diviner. Along with that sight, however, came an inevitable paranoia and madness, as no mortal was meant to see this much of the multiverse at one time.

The Hand of Vecna was a blackened, almost talon-like left hand. It dripped an ichor, only visible on the Etheral Plane, that slowly ate away at the Soul of any mortal it touched. Anyone who cut off their own left hand and replaced it with the Hand of Vecna gained supernatural strength, enhanced magical powers (if already trained as spellcasters), and the ability to reach through space and time.

History

The Eye and Hand of Vecna were once the ordinary eye and hand of a High Elf named Navec, but transformed and made immortal through Morigana's power. According to The Ballad of Navec the Bryght, Morigana turned Navec's left eye to pure silver in an instant, causing eyr vision to split between the mortal world and the infinite multiverses that the gods can perceive.   For over forty years, the last known bearers of the Eye and Hand were the Dread Queen Andai and the Dread Queen Ilíl, better known as the Sisters of Sorrow. They were defeated in the Battle of the Ignan Throne by Sir Julien Hawthorne. According to some interpretations of the Prophecy of Vecna's Demise, when Sir Julien stabbed both the Eye and Hand and threw the Sisters' bodies into the volcano, the Eye and Hand were destroyed forever. Power-hungry tyrants like Sarastro and the Lich King of the Black Keep supposedly sought them out or attempted to replicate their power in the following decades, though none had any success.   At some unknown point in her travels, Lona te-Morigana located the Eye (believed to have been in the ruins of Old Bjália, as it has often been found) and used it to replace her own already-missing left eye. As has often been the case for bearers past, the Eye guided her to the Hand's resting place. Lona used the foresight and intelligence granted by the Eye to help propel herself to election as Valòmar. She offered the Hand to her sister-in-law Maria Verdini, who used a Clone with a pre-amputated arm (stashed in secret chambers within the Taras Telumë) to claim it.   With these powerful artifacts in tow, the sisters embarked on a short yet brutal reign of terror throughout Scalados, ensuring that no heir of the recently-slain Eldatar Supedo I could threaten Lona's usurpment of his crown, before descending upon Cantonova to install Maria as Countess. However, the sisters were stopped by the Dragonslayers of Cantonova and their friends. The Eye and Hand were destroyed by the Thorn of the Rose and the Bane of Arachne, brother-blades made by Master Kento and wielded by Tosca and Gepopo respectively. Though some skeptics say that the Eye and Hand will always return so long as there is evil in the world, this is generally accepted to have finally fulfilled the Prophecy of Vecna's Demise.
