Lich

A lich is a powerful Undead arcanist who violates the sanctity of their own mortal Soul, trading it for eternal life and immense power over others.
Liches feed off the souls of mortals. They keep these souls, as well as their own, trapped inside a crucible. A lich will regenerate constantly if their crucible survives and is replenished periodically with fresh souls; only the destruction of both the soul-crucible and the lich's mortal form can kill them.
Though a lich will most frequently begin as a Wizard, liches with backgrounds in divine magic are not uncommon. These liches typically begin as devoted followers of evil gods such as Morigana or Set. Occasionally, though, the follower of a more neutral god of knowledge or death, like Hildegard or Osiris, will become obsessed with capturing the secrets of life, death, and the divine, and seek lichdom as a way to devote themselves fully to these secrets at the cost of their own mortality.
The first lich was Vecna the Immortal, a scribe who pushed too hard for Morigana's divine gift of vision and was driven to madness by it. Ey wrote down the secrets to lichdom in the Dread Folio, which those aspiring to lichdom still seek today.
