Albion Empire

The Albion Empire is one of the four nations on the Western Continent. The empire once ruled the entire Western Continent under Emperor Alboril I. Albion's colors are Blue and Gold and the coat of arms is a crown with a sword vertically through the center of the crown.

Geography

The Albion Empire is situated in the center of the Western Continent. It's neighbor to the north is the Kingdom of Dobright which broke off from the Albion after the death of Alboril I. To the south, sits the Airdan Republic which broke off from Albion during the War of the Seven Emperors. To the west sits the Confederasy of Henesia which seceded from Albion during the reign of Alboril VII. Lake Albion separates much of the empire's southwestern border from the Confedeacy and the Airdan Republic. Most of Albion's eastern border is met with the Eastern Bay however, during Alboril IX's reign, the Veydar Peninsula Isle of Ghirard seceded to the Airdan Republic.

Structure

The Albion Empire is currently ruled by Emperor Alboril X who's health is currently ailing. He is expected to be succeeded by his eldest son Prince Diagil within the coming years. Emperor Alboril X's reign has been largly peacful with a few skirmished with the Confederacy of Henesia and the Kingdom of Dobright over uclaimed terriroty. Alboril X has made lasting economic gains on the Western Hemisphere by increasing trade with his neighbors as well as increasing the production of goods and services within Albion's borders. Albion is known for their extensive libraries and powerful military.   The curent Albion Empire boasts a strong milirary with an exceptional spy network known as The Whispers. The Emperor rules directly with a court of advisors to aide him. The governorships of the various regions of Albion are generally held by appointed nobles to garner favor with the Emperor's policies. At the local level, mayors are generally elected or appointed by the villagers in no offical fashion. Many villages have distinct governments but they all ultimatley answer to the Emperor.   With the Emperor's failing health, Diagil has taken on most of the day to day ruling with minor exceptions such as ceremonial duties. It is rumored that while the Emperor adores both of his children, he would have rathered pass the Empire to his younger daughter, Princess Gwendolyna. It is unclear why the Emperor favors his daughter, but many speculate it is because of her superior self discipline. However, tradition demands that the eldest child inherits the crown upon the death or abdication of the Emperor and to break from this successon could lead to disorder within the Empire. It is said the Prince and Princess have developed a sight animosity due to the Emperor's private wish that Gwendolyna take the throne. Despite these rumors, there is no sign of a power struggle brewing. Most suspect the Princess will retain her current postition at the head of the Albion military and continue to advise her brother on such matters.   Prince Diagil has aprenticed under his father since his teens and is known for his diplomatic skills. However, he has been known to lack self dicipline from time to time and was once rumored to be promiscuous. While Princess Gwendolyna is skilled dimplomatically, her true talents lie in military strategy. Under her supervison, Albion has gained more ground in the seceded lands than under any other Emperor since the death of Alboril I.   Noble Houses: The Royal House Besk has been the ruling house since the founding of the empire. However, many other houses have risen and fallen during the history of Albion. The current most powerful houses include: House Katenga, House Calendra, House Jorsek, House Wyvrek, House Zirenga, House Milarek, and House Helvordra. The leaders of these houses often hold governorships across the country or advisory positions in the Royal Court, and often hold monetary influence, but do not hold any offical power.

Culture

Albion culture is defined by knowledge. Most Albion people seek knowlege in every way, whether that be through study or throuh adventures. Many of the worlds greatest wizards have at least studied in Albion. And Albion has produced many adventurers and warriors. Albion fashion is defined by light colors and loose fitting clothes with little patterns. The nobles will accessorize with some jewlery, but not much. Albion food varies by region, but most people associate grain based dishes and lots of fruit with Albion. Albion names are very distinct. Both men and women tend to have names ending in "il" such as Emperors Aboril, Diagil, Fregil, and Empresses Evelil and Reyneil. Women tend to have names that end in "nya" or "ia" such as Jordyna, Gwendolyna, Cassyna, and Jeoryena or Alencia, Cassia, Vaneria, and Ralaria. Men tend to have names that end in "ten" or "o"such as Emperor Arten or Broten, Fanten, and Zalten or Dyno, Gordo, and Valano. Names among nobles tend to predominently end in "il" or "nya" emulating the majority of Royal names.

Foreign Relations

The Albion Empire once ruled the entire continent and still holds ambitions to do so again. Under the reign of Emperor Alboril X, the empire has regained some of it's seceded lands. However, that has come at the cost of war with the Confederacy of Helensia and slightly strained relations with the Kingdom of Dobright and the Airdan Republic. Although, relations are usually somewhat strained given Albion's ambitions. However, trade relations between the Airdan Republic and the Kingdom of Dobright have increased exponentially in recent years. Relations with the Eastern Hemisphere are mostly based on trade as opposed to any tight diplomatic relations.
