Kingdom of Dobright

The Kingdom of Dobright formed following the death of Emperor Alboril I after a disagreement regarding the secession. Many in the northern part of the empire believed the Emperor's younger son, Dobrol, should have inherited the throne over Alboril's eldest daughter Alencia. Dobright peacefully split from Albion and followed Dobrol as their King. The flag of Dobright is almost identical to Albion with the exception of color. Dobright also has a gold crown with a gold sword through the middle; however, the banner is a crimson red.

Geography

The Kingdom of Dobright resides on the northern part of the Western Continent. Most of its southern border is connected to the Albion Empire and part of the southwestern border is connected to the Confederacy of Hanesia. The rest of its borders meet the sea. Due to its northern location, Dobright relies heavily on trade with Albion and the Confederacy of Hanesia; especially in the winter when production is at its lowest.

Government and Current Affairs

King Keofforoy Besokol is the current head of state and claims sole administrative power. King Keofforoy is a relatively young ruler. At 40, he is expected to have a relatively long reign and continue the prosperity that begun under his father. King Brolon passed away unexpectedly in 817 FE. The manner of his death always raised suspicion and rumors circulated that a spy from the Albion Whispers carried out the deed. Though Albion denies these allegations, this suspicion has further strained relations.   Like, Albion, the king has a small council of advisors at court who aide him in decision making. In the Dobrightian court, this group is called the King's Council. The current council is made up of seven appointed Lords who aide the King in his governing duties. King Keofforoy's current Head Councilor is Lord Wollord o'Falokon who also served as Head Councilor to the King's late father, King Brolon.   The next in line for the succession is King Keoforoy's eldest son and second child, Prince Marokol. At age sixteen, Prince Marokol is known to be an accomplished swordsman and skilled tactician. He currently serves as a Captain in the Dobrightian military. Succession always follows the male line. However, currently, King Keoforoy's eldest, Princess Olonya, acts as Queen due to Queen Aloxolra's recent death.

Culture

Dobrightian people hold a similar culture to those of Albion in terms of food and religion; however, there are significant differences in fashion and society. Unlike their counterparts, Dobrightians favor bold colors and patterns on their clothes. They proudly display their house crests or colors and are known to wear an exorbitant amount of jewelry or accessories. Women are generally not allowed to hold official leadership positions of any kind; although there are some exceptions mostly concentrated in remote villages.   Dobrightian names tend to have many syllables often containing "ol" or just "o". The name of the Royal House of Besokol originated from the Albionan Royal House of Besk, but was changed During the reign of King Olborol I, the grandson of King Dobrol. This name change resulted in many nobles and commoners changing their names or house names as part of a cultural campaign to differentiate themselves from Albion.   King Olborol I's campaign lead to two significant changes in Dobrightian culture. First, the practice of adding o's or ol's to ones name has bled into everyday language. Many Dobrightians have started to elongate words or phrases (in addition to their names) by adding extra o's or ol's. While most Dobrightians are still easily understood by most Common speakers, some linguistic scholars at the University of Albion believe this quirk will lead to Dobright eventually developing a completely different language. Second, the letter O has become a way to denote noble houses. With the exception of the Royal House of Besokol, all noble houses have a an O in front of their house names. Some of the most prominent houses include: House o'Holohol, House o'Falokon, House o'Eaogolo, House o'Pio, House o'Quirolto, and House o'Riomol.

Demography and Population

  • 59% | Human
  • 20% | Half-Elf
  • 10% | Elf
  • 8% | Gnome
  • 3% | Other
Despite the large elven and gnomish populations, they largly occupy the large forest regions of Dobright and do not internact much with the human populations. That being said, Dobright's cities are almost entirley human with small amounts of half-elfs and nearly absent elves or gnomes.

Foreign Relations

Dobright has relatively good relations with the Western Continent. Dobright has always had steady relations with Albion considering the rulers are kin--although, at this point, they are barely related. It relies heavily on Albion for trade especially during the winter when food is scarce. However, ties have been reduced to mere necessity due to Albion's attempt to reclaim seceded lands. Dobright has an excellent relationship with the Airdan Republic and has been covertly sending military support to the Confederacy of Hanesia in its fight against the Albion Empire. King Keoforoy is personal friends with the Hanesian Lord Archil Bomoth of the Northern Reaches.
